Stage Directions
Arena stage
Arena stage : the audience is seated all around the stage on four sides. A few theatres in the country are permanently arranged like this.
Thrust : The audience is on three sides of the stage as if the stage has been ‘thrust’ forward. This can be very apparent, like a catwalk, or more like an extended apron stage.
Stage Types – Thrust
a modern thrust is not too different to the ancient Greek. Thrust staging gives a good all-round and closer view of the action, however this better view also comes at a cost – large scenic elements can only be placed at the rear of the stage.
