Torch Lake is the longest lake (19 miles long) and second largest lake (18,770 acres) in Michigan. It is 17 miles NE of Traverse City and is separated by land from both Grand Traverse Bay on the NW & Elk Lake at the SW end. Its waters are unusually clear & exhibit a bright turquoise hue, resembling Caribbean waters. It has a max depth of 285 ft & an average depth of 111 ft, making it Michigan's deepest inland lake. Its famous sandbar.
