Pre-WWII Boeing 247 (D to Y armed conversion) China 1937 to 1939
Boeing converted two of their Model 247D passenger liner to prototype armed bombers. One was sold to Chinese warlord Chang Hsueh-liang in 1937. After his capture, the plane became part of the Chinese Nationalist Air Force until it crashed in Indochina in 1939.

This is a photo portrait of Second Lieutenant Arthur Wong Jr. a Chinese-American aviator from Oakland, California. Wong was a member of the 359th Fighter Group of the United States Army Air Forces (USAAF). The USAAF were the military aviation arm of the Us Army during and immediately after World War II. Roughly 25 % of all Chinese-American soldiers during World War II served with the Army Air Forces. 1/11/1945
