Vultures, Big Bend National Park, Texas | Al Braden Photography
Red Headed Turkey Vulture, also known as the Red Headed Turkey Buzzard, is a scavenger and feeds almost exclusively on carrion. It finds its food using its keen eyes and sense of smell. In flight, it uses thermals to move through the air flapping its wings infrequently. They roost in large community groups and have few natural predators. The Red Headed Turkey Vulture receives legal protection under the Migratory Bird Act of 1918.
