The stair runner ends on the top riser, we then painted the very top step / floorboard in @farrowandball Railings to create an end to the stair colour. The floorboards were sanded and sealed with @osmo_uk in Polyx-oil raw matt finish. We have floorboards in the bedrooms so I think having it run through the landing too creates continuity. Do you have floorboards on your landing or do you prefer a cosy carpet? . DETAILS The stair carpet runner is from @hughmackaycarpets and called Deco Collection Two Tone Magpie Stripe. We bought from a local carpet shop and they also organised the fitting. The stairs are painted in Railings by @farrowandball. Here’s what I did…don’t ever do it unless you have all the time. Although I would do it again if the situation ever came about in the future.

I stripped the lower stairs and the landing woodwork of all the original paint as it was packed full of lead and sanded the upper stairs to our loft, and then painted all the woodwork starting with a primer, undercoat and then with a colour match of Farrow & Ball Off Black in acrylic eggshell to provide a striking contrast against the light walls. Lastly we chose a sisal runner and carpet with a striped taping linking the bottom of the house to the top.
