Along with the three companion books written for charity, the series has sold over 500 million copies, been translated into 80 languages, and made into eight blockbuster films.

Joanne Rowling, more commonly known as J. K. Rowling, was born in Yate, England. Rowling does not have a middle name and instead got her initials J. K. from her grandmothers name, Kathleen. Rowling was a single mother living in Edinburgh, Scotland where she became an international literary sensation in 1999. Her Harry Potter series took over the top three spots of the New York Times bestseller list.
