Dance Shield Tutsi, Rwanda Wood, pigment Early to mid 20th Century 12 in/30 cm $2500 The Tutsi excelled in their craft artistry, be it basketry or decorated wooden shields of this type that were used in traditional dances. Undecorated rattan shields were used during battle but these painted pieces had major ritual significance and each pattern appears to be unique.
