Amy Powers on Instagram: "There are now sterile varieties of rose of Sharon plants, which won’t spread seeds. Rose of Sharon is an aggressive spreader and in some states it is considered invasive. Please do some Google searching and see if it’s invasive in your area and remove it if it is. You can replace it with a sterile variety. If nothing else, when the seeds get created after blooming, cut all the stems back so those seeds don’t develop and drop to the ground and cause more spreading! That means the plant can live in that location with a healthy enough root system to survive on its own without supplemental watering. in order for the plant to put out deep enough route systems to become established in three years, the plant needs every green leaf and needle it has to photosynthesize food. This food provides the energy to push out that healthy root system.
