Pepsi was first launched as Brad's Drink in 1893 by North Carolina druggist Caleb Bradham. Under this name, it was only served within his pharmacy; a logo was not drafted for it until the name was changed and the syrup began being distributed in 1898. On August 28, 1898, Brad's Drink began being marketed as Pepsi-Cola, named so for its pepsin content.
