How to teach tuck rolls in dance class
The Holistic Dance Teacher Technique theme of the month is USE OF WEIGHT, and one of my favorite ways to help dancers understand how to efficiently use their weight in modern, jazz, and contemporary dance classes is by breaking down the technique of tuck rolls on the floor. I love this sequence because it helps dancers understand weight shift, momentum, connection to the floor, suspension, release, knee tracking, and so much more! I use it most with dancers who are new to floor work, but it’s also a great drill to give to experienced dancers as a way to reinforce good weight shifting technique and better understand how to use mechanics of weight shift more efficiently in their own bodies. Why is use of weight such an important dance technique concept for dancers? More than anything else
