No Room!

You just can’t find a room when you want one – especially when you’re about to have a baby! ‘No Room’, tells the story of a tired Mary and Joseph finally reaching Bethlehem looking for somewhere to stay.

You just can’t find a room when you want one – especially when you’re about to have a baby! The verses of this primary school song, ‘No Room!’, tell the story of a tired Mary and Joseph finally reaching Bethlehem. It’s not much fun looking for somewhere to stay during a busy Census. The chorus, with its ‘Broadway’-style accompaniment, ups the tempo and gives the rather short message from the innkeepers that they have ‘No Room!’. That is until the last innkeeper finds them room in a stable and … well the rest is history! A great song that can help to dramatise this part of the Nativity story.

You could choose ‘No Room!’ as part of a selection of Christmas songs to go with our flexible  ‘A Simple Nativity’ scripts or have them all to choose from with our ‘A Simple Nativity’ Performance Pack. No Room!

V1
Late at night so tired and weary
Bethlehem their journey’s end.
But where will Mary and Joseph find to stay?
Riding on a little donkey
Through the narrow streets still searching
For an inn, let’s knock,
What will they say?

Chorus
No, no, no, no room at the inn,
Don’t think you can simply walk in!
We’ve been booked for months, it’s a shame,
You can’t win!
No, no, no, no room at the inn
We’re so full it’s making a din!
You’ll just have to take it on the chin.

V2
Late at night so tired and weary
Bethlehem their journey’s end.
But who will have any room
To let them sleep?
Riding on a little donkey
Through the narrow streets still searching
Can you help them? Don’t let Mary weep.

Chorus

V3
Late at night so tired and weary
Bethlehem their journey’s end.
And here the light of the world
Will soon be born.
Riding on a little donkey
Through the narrow streets still searching
Someone let them in before it’s dawn.

Last chorus
Yes, yes, yes there’s room at the inn,
It’s a stable, nothing built-in.
There’s a manger but the walls are a bit thin.
Yes, yes, yes there’s room at the inn,
You can sleep away from the din,
Follow me, this way, and we’ll get you checked in.
