I have been trained in the trauma-informed modality of Child- Parent Psychotherapy (CPP), specific to the birth to five population, and can't wait to start new cases.
Newly approved ESA provider! You may be here because your child is having a hard time focusing, or because they are anxious and easily upset. Sometimes your young child has an outburst, and you find it hard to manage. Or, maybe you find it difficult for your child to follow directions or get along with others. Perhaps your child has been through something traumatic and stressful, and you’re not sure how to help them along their healing process. They could be a child who doesn’t know what to do with their big feelings and need a little extra help coping. I am here to help you find peace and balance.

We've tackled issues such as disappointment, singleness, loneliness, relationships, parenting, step- parenting, divorce, remarriage and grief.
Life‘s unexpected twists and turns can often make our journey feel lonely, frustrating and empty. Sometimes we need someone to take the journey with us to hear us out and to encourage us in taking the steps we know we need to take. These steps may include working through marital challenges, navigating step families issues, understanding and parenting children more effectively, or dealing with work-life balance and being single or single again! As a family life coach I work with individuals, children and families. My goal is to walk with you, through to finding freedom in the challenges you face.

In addition to my professional experiences, I am also an adoptive parent of two children from foster care, and have two wonderful sons with Asperger's Disorder.
You don't have to do this alone. I have 20 years of experience dealing with issues affecting young children and their caregivers. I provide psychological assessment and treatment for Autism Spectrum Disorders (children and adults), parent/child relationship issues, abuse/trauma/neglect, and attachment/foster-care/adoption issues. All family members can receive assessment and treatment, regardless of age, in order to improve individual and family functioning, and the experience of joy. I also assess children in their school or daycare setting, and provide assistance with IEP/IFSP meetings. I use both relational and behavioral strategies for treatment.

I have worked with kids and their families for over 25 years. My favorite children and teens are strong willed, capable, and smart (academic and/or common sense). I see kids ranging from 3 year old to college students. Some of the most common issues that I work with are ADD/ADHD, Oppositional/Defiant, Depression, Anxiety and Bipolar Disorders. Other general issues are poor social skills, difficulty with frustration, poor communication skills and parent-child conflict. Because so many of the families that I see are struggling with how get along easily, I prefer to include parents whenever possible.

I also specialize in identifying developmental delays, behavioral issues and parent-child relationship concerns.
Trauma is complex and affects the mind and body. When children and teens are exposed to a traumatic event or chronic trauma, their bodies’ endure toxic stress. Often children and teens are unable to communicate their emotions and thoughts due to the inability to comprehend their experience. Parents struggle knowing how to support their child and fear of causing further harm. Trauma heals through resolving unresolved memories, emotions and beliefs surrounding the experience. Addressing trauma is essential.

Parenting Therapists

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
