Returning to the studio in 2019 after a seven-year hiatus, it appears Ladytron is back making albums every three years like they used to in the 2000s. There are a lot of great tracks on Time’s Arrow, songs that will make you want to dance, sing or cry—sometimes all at once. The band’s classic sound is made evident from the opening track, the single ‘City of Angels’, a catchy new wave song complete with a psychedelic keyboard. In 25 years of existence, Ladytron hasn’t altered its tried and tested formula, opting for retro vibes that rest somewhere between disco and new wave, and synths that snake their way between Moroder, Siouxsie & The Banshees and New Order. They’re still impartial to the odd quasi-80s, pop-inspired song, too (‘We Never Went Away’, ‘The Night and Time’s Arrow’). This album is 100% geared towards their die-hard fans, and it won’t leave any of them disappointed. © Smaël Bouaici/Qobuz
