Inspired by "East Bloc techno raves" from her time living in Prague, FKA twigs' third album is actually a dance floor chameleon—trying on a variety of beats, moods and personalities. Chilled-out "Girl Feels Good" is slick R&B pop with trip-hop undertones; a slight metallic echo on her voice makes the whole thing feel interstellar. "Drums of Death" is a glitched-out, hedonistic fantasy—"Drop your skirt to the floor … Fuck who you want/ Babygirl, do it just for fun," she sings—that samples South Korean rapper G-Dragon. The compellingly weird "Keep It, Hold It," a collaboration with eclectic composer Nicolas Jaar, has a super slow build that veers on spoken word. It finds Twigs sustaining notes until they're almost an animalistic call. At various moments, she seems to channel Dolores O'Riordan ("Striptease"), Björk (glowy after-party track "Room of Fools") and even Sarah Brightman. Twigs' soprano is angelic on the title track (she came up with the word "eusexua" to describe "sensation of being so euphoric" that one could "transcend human form," she told British Vogue), which is so powerful yet intimate it seems made for headphones at a silent rave. Mixed by the talented Manny Marroquinn (SZA, Lana Del Rey), it goes from hushed to galloping to an Auto-Tune whisper that floats into the ether like a lost balloon. The equally atmospheric "24hr Dog"—created with longtime collaborator Emile Haynie—sounds like an ice-cream truck song melting as fast as a cherry-dipped cone on an August afternoon. Largely produced by Koreless, Eusexua also credits a few big names behind the board. Jeff Bhasker (Taylor Swift, fun.) worked on the poppy "Childlike Things," which samples 11-year-old North West's verse from dad Ye's "BOMB." And "Perfect Stranger" revives Stargate—the Norwegian production duo behind mid-aughts hits like Beyoncé's "Irreplaceable" and Rihanna's "Don't Stop the Music"—and ropes in Ghanaian hiplife star TiC. As the track skitters wildly, Twigs contrasts it with breathless hiccups and baby-doll coos about ignorance being bliss: "I don't know your friends or your exes' names/ Who left or who took the blame/ I don't know and I don't care." © Shelly Ridenour/Qobuz
