<p>Hello! I&#39;m <strong>Yoshiharu Tsukuura (JP1LRT)</strong>. I was first licensed in 1983 at the age of 17, and have been enjoying ham radio ever since. Over nearly 40 years, I’ve pursued many interests, but my main passion is contesting. I also enjoy making FT8 QSOs.</p>

<p>Contesting:<br>
I mainly participate in Japanese domestic contests, though I occasionally join DX contests as well. My favorite band is 50 MHz (6 meters). I can operate on HF, 50 MHz, 144 MHz, 430 MHz, and above.</p>

<p><span style="font-size:18px">FT8:</span><br>
I operate FT8 almost every day. I use JTDX because I find it easier to use than WSJT-X, and its greatest advantage has long been its decoding capability. However, while JTDX was previously superior in decoding performance, the latest WSJT-X 3.0.0—now incorporating JTDX technologies—provides decoding equivalent to JTDX. For those still using WSJT-X 2.7 or older, <strong>I highly recommend upgrading to the improved edition of WSJT-X 3.1.0.</strong></p>

<p>12 JUL 2017, I exchanged a 6m band antenna from</p>

<p>CL6DXZ to <a href="https://www.innovantennas.com/en/shop-page/7-element-50mhz-lfa2-wos-yagi-9-5m.html" target="_blank"><s>7 element 50MHz LFA2 WOS Yagi (9.5m) </s></a> by Innovantennas.</p>

<p>I ordered <a href="https://www.innovantennas.com/en/shop-page/7-element-50mhz-lfa2-wos-yagi-9-5m.html" target="_blank">7 element 50MHz LFA2 WOS Yagi (9.5m)</a>, but what arrived was different.</p>

<p>It was a <a href="https://www.innovantennas.com/en/shop-page/7-element-50mhz-lfa2-hd-yagi-8-9m.html" target="_blank">7-element 50MHz LFA2-HD Yagi (8.9m)</a>. I was so disappointed. </p>

<p>The UK is very far from JA. Exchanging the antenna will take time and money.</p>

<p>I gave up on the exchange. The Innovantennas did not apologize for any incorrect shipment.</p>

<p>During assembly, the antenna was not tuned according to the instructions and was set to a relatively low frequency. With the help of my friend JA1CTB, Aki-san, I adjusted it using simulation software. The director and radiator loop lengths were modified without changing the element positions. The manual suggested bending the reflector from the middle forward, but we kept it straight and adjusted the length instead. Aki-san demonstrated that bending the reflector would make the antenna overly critical and found the optimal, stable tuning via simulation. I sincerely thank Aki-san for his help.</p>

I answer all QSLs received and happily verify SWL reports. All QSOs will be uploaded to LoTW, eQSL, Club Log, HRDLOG, and QRZ.com as soon as possible. If you use eQSL or LoTW, I prefer confirmation through these platforms rather than issuing a paper card.</p>

<p><span style="font-size:22px"><strong>LoTW and FT8 Tips</strong></span><br>
The following section contains information about LoTW and tips for FT8 settings and operation.</p>

<p><span style="font-size:18px">LoTW:</span></p>

<p><span style="font-size:16px">You don&#39;t have to be an ARRL member to use LoTW, and the only time you will incur a fee is when you apply for an award using LoTW. If you upload your logs in ADIF format to QRZ.com, eQSL, HRDLOG, Clublog, etc., I encourage you to upload them to LoTW as well. Awards submitted through LoTW are very popular. Even if you aren&#39;t interested in applying for these awards yourself, I am sure many people would like to use their QSO data with you to apply for these awards. Please upload them to LoTW as well. It will save them a lot of time and effort. Sometimes I see people who are eQSL users but do not use LoTW. Is there a reasonable reason to exclude LoTW from the site to be uploaded? Whether you like it or not, we now know who is using LoTW. And when people see that you are a LoTW user, they are more motivated to QSO with you because it&#39;s easier to confirm their QSOs. I believe it would result in more QSOs of your own, which would increase your enjoyment of amateur radio.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-size:16px">For those who don&#39;t know, JTDX, a piece of software for FT8, can call back LoTW users first. If many stations have the same conditions, JTDX will prioritize LoTW users for callbacks.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-size:16px">Getting started with LoTW is very easy. If you are an FT8 enthusiast, you can apply for it easily. Do you think it&#39;s a hassle? But there are many benefits to being a LoTW user. Of course, it&#39;s none of your business if you haven&#39;t digitized your logs.</span></p>

<div>I strongly dislike <strong><span style="color:#0000ff">HIJACKERS</span></strong>. The number of people who call on-frequency and then stay there during FT8 operation is not decreasing—it is actually increasing.</div>

<p>If all stations used split frequencies, there would be no problem. In reality, however, some continue to call on the same frequency. It is easy to imagine that staying on that frequency after completing a QSO and continuing to work other stations creates QRM for the station you just worked.</p>

<p>For example, suppose you are calling CQ on SSB or CW and complete a QSO. How would you feel if your QSO partner immediately starts working another station on the same frequency? You would naturally feel annoyed and say, “This is QRM, please QSY.”</p>

<p>I cannot help but think that some operators do not even look at the waterfall screen before transmitting. Even on analog SSB/CW, it is standard practice to check the frequency usage before transmitting—and the same applies to digital modes. If you cannot understand this, you should not be operating in digital modes.</p>

<p>After completing a QSO on the same frequency (same DF), if another station calls, you must move to another frequency immediately. Failing to do so is <strong>unacceptable</strong> and makes you a <span style="color:#0000ff"><strong>HIJACKER</strong></span>.</p>
