It works its strange alchemy with riveting force… With this extraordinary film, Scorsese confirms his standing among our finest young directors. It is, among other things, a testament to the versatility that last produced Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore. Go to Full Review

Taxi Driver is so volatile it nearly explodes from the screen. Under Martin Scorsese's brilliant direction, it works a dramatic tension that is inescapable, carefully, systematically straitjacketing its audience in the problems of its central character. Go to Full Review

Remove the cataclysmic ending from Taxi Driver and it would be one smashingly good motion picture. As it stands, the film is beautiful to look at, exciting to listen to, but much too much to stomach. Go to Full Review

The viewer has no choice, we are forced to breathe the air, gaze through the pupils, and experience the city by slipping into the shoes of a twisted protagonist, the shoe laces tightly tied by none other than a master of his craft, Scorsese. Go to Full Review

Allen T Sep 12 A great character study/story. A mental health story. A cautionary tale. A good one if you like DeNiro. Bernard Herrnann's final score sadly- full of emotion. So glad it was back on the big screen! See more Vixo S @vixo_six 2d Taxi Driver remains disturbing because it treats loneliness without romance or comfort. Martin Scorsese turns New York into a psychological landscape where noise, crowds and neon only deepen Travis Bickle's isolation. The film shows a man surrounded by life, yet unable to connect with it. Robert De Niro gives Travis an unsettling fragility, making him feel less like a simple monster than a man whose alienation slowly becomes resentment and delusion. His routines, insomnia and failed attempts at connection reveal how loneliness can distort the self until violence begins to look like purpose. What makes the film endure is its refusal to offer easy moral clarity. Taxi Driver observes a society capable of ignoring suffering until it becomes dangerous. It is a portrait of isolation, masculine frustration and urban decay that remains unforgettable because it feels painfully plausible. See more Christopher M @RT27122576 4d I get worried with hyped older movies, but Taxi Driver did not disappoint. I loved the whole time I couldn't tell is he a good guy, a bad guy, no just a lonely guy unhappy with his place in the world, lost, and wanting to be a part of something bigger. A very relatable tale of a human experience just as relevant today as the day it was made. See more blood in my M @vloodivine 4d From a lover to a madman, this film shows just how possessive and passionate—yet at the same time crazy and twisted—a human being can be. And even as a complete madman, he still retains some humanity. This film shows how a human being can be many things and reveal only what he chooses; insomnia makes the world seem unreal, and so he made his world work however he wanted, and the consequences of his actions turned him from a crazy, maniacal killer into, in the eyes of the public, a savior—a slayer of evil people and a man in love with someone who would never return. I don’t know—Taxi Driver isn’t just a movie to me; it’s a feeling of being there. The psychological terror of watching him become that is incredible, and that soundtrack, soft jazz amidst a sick mind, is wonderful. Without a doubt, one of the best movies ever made! See more David M @RT30868034 Jun 2 I've put this down as a rewatch, though in truth it's so long since I saw it that beyond a few moments and its iconic reputation, I could recall very little of Martin Scorsese's classic. This 50th anniversary screening provided a perfect opportunity for a refresh/revisit. There's little that's new to say, of course - De Niro is extraordinary, the sinuous score brilliant, the direction masterly, the moral reflection timeless. It has lost none of its power, and has scarcely aged a day thanks to the technical brilliance of the execution. A haunting, troubling, brilliant film which remains a key staging post in the development of an art form. See more Jaden H. @RT70444399 Jun 1 5/5 stars — "Taxi Driver is a gripping psychological drama that pulls you into the mind of a lonely and troubled man. The atmosphere is unforgettable, the direction is brilliant, and Robert De Niro delivers one of the greatest performances in film history.
