Pat B This show is pure genius. I loved watching this as a kid, and I still love it each time I rewatch it now in my thirties. Brilliant acting, whether from the leads or the ensemble, and the writing is truly exceptional. It heavily informs my own sense of humour, and it's just one of the best things ever put on TV. I love, especially, seasons 5-9, though when I recommend this to friends, I tend to suggest they don't start with seasons 1 or 2. It takes them a little while, frankly, to find their groove and I'm not sure they find it until season 3. And for the rest, this might be an artifact well worth exploring for their regular dosage of humor. Spanning from 1989 to 1998 with a season each year, "Seinfeld" was and is a comedy in its own niche and possibly ahead of its time with its boldness. Centering on Jerry Seinfeld's semi-fictionalized life as a stand-up comedian trying to break out into television, the comedy is well spread around his three friends George, Elaine and Kramer who are funny in their own flavors. George being the balding and miserly bestie, Elaine – the ex that sticks around as a bud, but with a remnant (s)ex-ual tension and Kramer, the neighbor who is more elastic than Jim Carrey and seems to know more about the world than any one. The humor, both in the stand-up bits and amongst the four friends is quite hilarious and no-holds barred, but yet harmless which is what is admirable to watch in this age and time. Ironically a lot of the topics in Jerry's stand-up material are still relevant and ring a loud bell in the present day. A live audience in the studio shots, mainly at Jerry's home are a character in itself – especially as they give a rousing welcome whenever Kramer enters the scene. Kramer, played by Michael Richards, is my favorite character and is so well acted by Richards physically and verbally. A certain incident gone awry at a stand-up performance by him in 2006, well after "Seinfeld" wrapped up made him step down from his stand-up career. Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Elaine and Jason Alexander as the other essential and colorful blocks in this crazy show are a mouthful of laughs, both actors still in the fray – Louis-Dreyfus prominently in and as "VEEP" and now potentially in the Marvel Universe, and Alexander with his appearances in "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel". Seinfeld himself is the creator of the show along with Larry David and marched on after the show to star in the "Bee Movie" (2007) and the much famous "Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee", first aired in 2012 and staggered up until the pandemic started in 2019. He leads the comedian team with perfect timing. A real textbook for stand-up comedy, comedy acts and generally humor, this was a show carried by some underrated champs and deserves attention in these bleak times when laughter is a great remedy.
