2024 in review

Another year already. Like so many years, it brings change both good and bad.

Let's take a journey through our year:

January was up and down. We took in the car kittens and mom had an adventure. But we also lost our Ivy girl. She is still missed.

February brought us some older orange kittens for a couple of weeks. And Boba worked harder to figure out the food puzzle.

March had a couple of birthdays. Boba turned 1 years old and Chanel turned 7 years old.

April came and mom tried to convince Boba to wear a harness and be an adventure cat. Fail - total fail. haha  No kittens yet but the weather was finally getting nice and we got to enjoy some open window time.

May brought us kittens. They needed a little socialization but weren't with us very long. Buckeye, Phantom and Gillig were very nice kittens.

June started with the kittens from May being adopted. Then we had more kittens - the Cinderella group: Cinderella, Bibbidi, Bobbidi and Boo.

July came and we were invaded by a pair of CH (cerebellar hypoplasia) kittens. Pumpkin came first from a lady seeking help on Facebook. Buttons came a couple of weeks later from a vet office. We also fostered a trio of older gray kittens from the shelter for a couple of weeks. The Cinderella kittens were all adopted pretty quickly. (Pumpkin and Buttons were both private fosters that mom and a friend took on)

August was when Buttons actually arrived here. The girls got along really well.

September was uneventful thankfully. The CH girls continued to grow and get stronger. The weather cooled off some so we got a few days of open windows.

October came and brought us....Pumpkin 2.0 from the shelter. He wasn't here very long and was adopted from the shelter. Pumpkin 1.0 was stuck in the foster room due to the floors but Buttons got a little more freedom once mom blocked off the stairs.

November and there was a road trip to get Pumpkin to her forever home. Her new mom has another CH cat and we get updates that they are doing great. Pumpkin did really well on the road trip and it was totally worth it. Mom also took a vacation to spend time with friends and found out about a new water fountain. Our luck isn't great but 2 months later Chanel hasn't killed it.

December and we got our last kittens of the year. Just here a couple of weeks to get over a kitten cold then back to the shelter where they were adopted within a couple of days. We got a new gate for the stairs. Because....mom decided to adopt Buttons. The girls (Daiquiri, Chanel, Goldfish and Buttons) all got their annual vet visits and were pronounced healthy. Daiquiri could stand to lose a couple of pounds but we ran her first senior blood panel and everything looked great.

Some final numbers: 23 fosters this year, 11 boys and 12 girls. We are just fostering with the shelter now so we see less numbers each year. And that is really OK - there are difference and mom finds this to be a more positive interaction.

Total foster numbers: we started in 8/06. 473 fosters total: 23 momma cats, 240 females, 233 males.

We wish you a very merry, safe and happy new year. We can't promise to make mom post more often but we will do what we can. HAHA Love you all and thank you for your support over the years.

Year in review

 It's been quite a year.

We had the Spartan kittens, the kitchen kittens, the cabbage kittens, the capital kittens, the happy kittens, the Texas flower kittens and now the muffins. We feel very luck that everyone has been adopted including our momma cats Ree and Huzzah. We had some heartbreak but we know that happens.

All the permanent residents here including our girl Allie continue to do well. Daiquiri and Ivy seem to be doing much better after their dental cleanings so that's good news. Ivy needs a senior check up and mom swears Goldfish is getting seen....some day. Haha

Mom also says we've been lucky. She's been able to work from home and our friends and family have stayed safe and healthy. We know there are been so many losses this year for so many.

The rescue is doing well too. Mom has been super busy with paperwork and applications. We've seen lots of adoptions, including some of the long term cats. Yay!!

We wish you a happy and healthy and wonderful 2021.

Year in Review - Part 2

July
Miss Julie gave us a camper at Blog Paws and the rat pack kittens put it to the test. We got to know Panache and her kittens better. We talked about cat guys. It was not only the summer of tuxedo kittens, it was the summer of one eyed tuxedo kittens as Romero and Rooney lost one eye each to infection. The rat pack kittens got new collars so mom had a better chance of telling them apart in pictures. We got close up pictures of the #littlekittens Mallard, Foxy and Fish. Chanel went up to the adoption center but wasn't adopted.

August
We did a Q and A about FIV in cats. Bogart, Flynn and Romero went up to the adoption center. Panache and the kittens got new housing arrangements. We posted about the rat pack girls. It was our 9th year blogoversary. Romero got adopted. Mom took Rooney and Harlow to an adoption event - upon their return to the house they got free run and Panache and the kittens got moved to the foster room. Flynn and Bogart were adopted together. Bacall stuck around the house getting over a cold. There was a minor mystery in the foster room.

September
Bacall went up to the adoption center and got adopted the next day. Mom took Lark and the songbird kittens - unfortunately they were all pretty sick and after going back to the rescue, they passed away. We posted some pictures showing how remarkable how much like Panache that Mallard looks. Foxy got adopted. Mom played musical cats and Rooney got adopted. Fish got adopted as well. We picked up the #berrykittens as well. Mozart turned 11 years old.

October
Mom took a long weekend to visit family and they all took out a pontoon boat for a day. When she got home she picked up 4 kittens rescued from Houston after Hurricane Harvey (Bristol, Shiner, Amarillo and Marfa). Mom went to visit Chanel...and ended up bringing her home. On the 6th, our elder statesman Tommy passed away with mom's help at the vet. Unfortunately later that week, Cranberry of the berry kittens passed away as well. The Texas kittens got their names and continued to charm mom. Chanel got a harness and started making trips out in public with mom. Harlow got adopted. On the 25th mom had to make the decision to take Mozart to the vet to euthanize him after a cancer diagnosis.

November
We kicked off the month with some VERY good news - Millie, mom to the design kittens, was adopted. Blueberry and the Texas kittens got a cold so there was snot in the foster room. The Texas gangsters decided Blueberry was fun to pick fights with on a regular basis. Chanel continued to go out and about with mom and got to meet someone interesting one day. Blueberry was finally ready to go up to the adoption center. There was a Texas kitten update and mom posted about our new log cabin house. And after several weeks, the Texas kittens were packed off for surgery.

December
Mom had pictures taken of Chanel for Christmas at a fundraiser for a local rescue. We got more back story on the Texas kittens before they came up here after Hurricane Harvey. After surgery and a weekend of adoption events, the Texas kittens were supposed to head up to the adoption center to find their forever homes. Blueberry was adopted on the 6th. On the day the Texas kittens were to get set up at the adoption center, Amarillo started to drool and there was random sneezing, so back to the house. They went back into the foster room but managed to pull a Houdini and escaped....gaining them access to the house full time. However, after a few days Chanel wasn't very happy about all 4 kittens being out, so they headed back up to the adoption center since no one was acting sick. Sigourney and Weaver came to us as new fosters for the end of the year. All four Texas kittens were adopted pretty quickly. Weaver continued to charm mom and Ivy had a vet check for her ear. We got our Secret Paws box. Unfortunately the year ended on a sad note when mom got a call from the pet sitter that Weaver had passed away while mom was out of town.

Year in Review - Part 1

Happy New Years and we wish you a safe and healthy 2018!! As we have been doing, we are going to take a look back at last year....it will be a 2 parter so be sure to come back tomorrow. Let us know your favorite parts of the year as well if you have one.

January
We started out 2017 with Dandelion and Cassis still hanging out here. Plus we got a groovy new carrier from our Aunt Dee. Mom found the strawberry house and it became Mozart's private domain (basically due to the fact that he was the only one that could fit inside it). And we had a couple of episodes of homewreckers. (see also part 2) Mom also talked about fostering for Change a Pet's Life Day. The patriot girls were still at the store waiting to be adopted and got a hammock to hang out in.

February
Daiquiri showed off a very growly obsession with those spring toys. Dandelion started a new course of medication for the ongoing and perpetual snot that he was experiencing. The homewreckers were still working on the gingerbread house. Cassis was spayed and adopted!! We feared for the end of times when mom caught Ivy and Junior sleeping VERY close to each other. And we got our first foster kittens of the season - Coyote and Roadrunner. (#thelooneykittens)

March
We didn't realize it until we started looking back, but we did lots of adoptions in March: Dandelion, the patriot girls Liberty and Freedom, Coyote of the looney kittens, and Roadrunner of the looney kittens.

The looney kittens got a visitor. We celebrated Napping Day (isn't that really every day though). Mom did a post about reviews online about the rescue. There was a new guy in the foster room. Mom headed off for a weekend to visit her family. Mom also went on a rant about a tv show and FIV cats. (seems March was also the month for the ranting mom).

April
For mom's birthday this year, she got a very special present - Millie and the #designkittens. (Dior, Chanel, Versace, Gucci and Armani) The kittens were officially named and weighed. There was much ongoing cuteness. There was a couple of videos of flailing cats. We did a 3 week old kitten weigh in session. Mom posted about some of the "cat things" we have around the house. Daiquiri and Ivy had their annual vet checkup and the kittens managed to escape the box.

May
The design kittens discovered toys. Mom got a new router (and set it up herself) so the web camera works much better now. Daiquiri managed to get into the foster kitten room and Millie was NOT having it. There were several epic battles involving the incline scratcher. Mom started laying out the contestants for kittens going to Blog Paws. The boys got their own picture day. Mom headed off to Blog Paws. The kittens got to meet new friends at Blog Paws. And then it was surgery day for the design kittens.

June
We got a bunch of kittens (the #ratpackkittens) in June....6 little tuxedo kittens that just spelled trouble from the beginning. The design kittens were all spayed and neutered. We played "meet your new partners" with the rat pack kittens and the design kittens ALL in the foster room together. There was a big weekend adoption event and mom took the design kittens. The design kittens were almost all ready to head to the adoption center (Dior had an umbilical hernia and was around a few more days). Versace, Armani, Dior and Gucci were all adopted but Chanel came back to the house with a cold. The rat pack kittens all got names. Panache and her kittens arrived from a hoarding situation. We broke the VERY special news about the adoption of Dior - now known as Cupcake. Finally mom made a chart for the names of the rat pack kittens - Harlow, Bacall, Rooney, Romero, Bogart and Flynn.
