Random Fridays

a Gargoyle in a bowl

Dragon watching Fate eat her dinner

The two tinys are doing well. If you missed it on social media, Gryffon passed away on Sunday. She was fine Saturday morning but started going downhill. She made it through the night but passed away in mom's arms Sunday morning. This time of year is especially hard - kittens are part of second litters and it is getting colder and it is just harder.

Gargoyle and Dragon are doing fine. Dragon still has a cold and is all sorts of stuffed up, but she is playing and eating great. She is getting a little hand shy with mom since mom is the bringer of meds and nose pickings right now.

Um Fate - are you supposed to be up there?

Yes, that is a certain black kitten on TOP of the doors to the foster room. He goes in and out to mooch the canned kitten food. Mom swore he was in one day and then saw him out and figured she just let him out and forgot. Until he let himself back in...and out...and in...and out. You get the idea. Mom isn't very happy about him jumping all the way up and down from that height. And the other night he landed ON her.... He is over his cold, so back up to the adoption center or off to a partner store for him. He is a sweet lovey boy and we are hoping someone picks him quickly.

You can't handle the nip

Miss Connie sent us a grade-A catnip toy. Mom figured that Daiquiri would be all over it.

Turn out she was wrong. Ivy grabbed it first....

Then a certain teenager got his paws on it

Just as an FYI....Fate is a mean and slappy drunk.

new friends

Hey look - that mysterious orange cat that lives here
Hi Junior!!
 ~~~~~~~~~~~~
We aren't fans of single kittens. They need friends to learn how to "cat". We know some places don't mix litters of kittens, but we will with caution.
Since Gargoyle is by herself and kind of....needy, mom reached out to the rescue and we now have these newbies:
 Both are girls. The tuxedo is a little smaller than Gargoyle and the tabby is pretty tiny. They are all eating pretty well, though the tuxedo is stuffed up and mom is having to clean her nose before meals. She is getting nebulized so that will help her breathe better as well.
Names you ask?? We are going with a #mythicalkittens theme. Gargoyle. The tuxedo girl will be Dragon and the tabby will be Gryffon.
 Gargoyle would like you to know that she thought she was lonely, but she might want to change her mind. She hasn't been terribly friendly yet with the other kittens, but it has only been a couple of days. Hopefully they will come together as their own little family in no time.
Fate would just like access to the kitten food....
wow he was little
We are giving you a little throw back today....back when the #dangernugget was still a nugget. Yep - that is Fate getting his butt kicked by Cipher.
In contrast, this is Fate now being stalked by an itty bitty Gargoyle
weekend report
First things first - Cricket was ADOPTED on Friday!!!
~~~~~~~~~~~

the picture isn't great, but she's still cute

The goal is to get her a couple of friends. Some rescues won't mix kittens and we certainly respect that. We will on occasion and in this case she needs kittens her own age to play with and snuggle. Fate goes in there occasionally but mainly for the buffet not the company.

Speaking of Fate, he is being *mostly* a good boy and has a couple of weeks left on his meds before he can go back to the center. Unfortunately we currently have a TON of black kittens and juveniles so keep your paws crossed.

weekend report

Well, tomorrow is October, but Mother Nature didn't get the memo. It was pretty warm here over the weekend and we still don't have open windows.
~~~~~~~~~
The bug kittens go today for their spay/neuter surgeries. Paws crossed for them. Once that is done they will be ready to go and get up on the website. The rescue is SO crowded at this time so it may take a couple of days to get them up to the center but they will be available starting tomorrow.
~~~~~~~~~

 If you missed the note on instagram/facebook, Fate is back with us for a few days. Mom noticed that he had a goopy eye and offered to bring him back here rather than have them try to find space at the rescue for him.

He has been gone about 3 weeks and has spent most of that time in a cage. He got here and ran around like a lunatic for about 90 minutes. By the end of it, he was running around by himself and every cat here was finding somewhere to sit and just watch him run past them. Fortunately he got it out of his system fairly quickly after than and settled down. He still runs around a lot and fortunately Goldfish and Chanel love to play with him.

He is a joy and we are hoping he can get some interest soon. He is super sweet and a wonderful kitten.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Chanel slept her way through the weekend and plans to do the same for the rest of the week.
Overnight visitors
Goldfish is all "wait...what??"
well make yourself at home already
You may recognize those kittens. That is Lane in the first picture and Fate in the second picture. Mom loves our partner store, but she (jokingly - sorta) says that she can't GIVE kittens away away at that store. She grabbed them Friday so the cage could be cleaned. At that point they didn't have a landing space - either the adoption center or another store. So she brought them back here. Keep in mind they are just about 5 months old at this point.
Lane LOST HER MIND. She walked around for the evening and most of the night growling at every cat she saw. Mom was concerned about the big kittens and the little kittens, so Lane and Fate were out in the house rather than in the kitten room. Fate on the other hand was fine with the other cats. But when mom went to bed....he discovered we have BED MICE. Mom didn't get a ton of sleep as he spent most of the night jumping all over the bed and stabbing mom's feet. (note to self - next time trim their nails in the evening)
Fate toe beans
The rescue had an event at a local home and garden show on Saturday and the volunteer who was going asked to take these two. Mom met her Saturday morning and handed them off. We got a report that the kittens had a blast.
There ended up being open spaces at the adoption center, so after the event, mom set them both up there. They are now in a cage with another kitten (black of course) and neither Lane nor Fate was too happy about the change. But no doubt they will be fine after a few hours to figure it out. Now we cross our paws they get adopted quickly. It's tough since they are getting to the "teenage" stage and are black.
Random Fridays
Nope - we not planning anything
Why do you ask?
It isn't a great picture, but Chanel had just reached out
and the look of disdain on Ivy's face is pretty priceless
yep - looking for trouble
(doesn't have to look too far - he IS trouble)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Mom took Chanel to a fundraiser on Tuesday for the rescue.
Chanel wasn't as comfortable as mom was expecting, so they didn't stay long (mom will write more about it later).

Chanel did have a temporary friend to keep her company though.... Mom found a pink sock monkey on sale and will be sending it to Cupcake (it is a running joke). However, to up the ante, she let the monkey take a trip with Chanel before being shipped out.

weekend report

Quick note: mom discovered who is fostering the A kittens. They have been renamed but are doing great with the bottle feeders and are growing like mad.
~~~~~~~~~
Mopar is making great progress. Mom left him by himself for a day last weekend when she was at an event and it has made a lot of difference. He is still a little shy but he is coming over and looking for attention and not running as much. He is more eager to come over when mom is sitting down rather than when she is standing. She still has to grab him, but he then relaxes and purrs while she pets him.
 Lane has lots of opinions about EVERYTHING! She is doing great and has no issues telling those boys exactly what she thinks of them.
so judgy
Lane is a shoulder dweller
Fate is harder to get pictures of since he runs around the room like a nut or is snuggled up to mom trying to get all the attention.
Mom did weigh everyone yesterday. Mopar is 1 pound 12 ounces, Fate is 1 pound 9 ounces, and Lane is 1 pound 7 ounces. Everyone is gaining weight - plus they were all dewormed again so that will help as well. They have been getting canned food once a day in addition to what they have available all the time. But based on size, they will be with us for a few weeks anyhow.
Random Fridays
At the event last weekend, one of our favorite photographers David Brown was there taking pictures for rescues and adopters (he has taken several of Chanel that we have posted before). Mom took over Cipher, Roomba and Fate for pictures. As always, they are awesome:
Cipher
Fate
aka danger nugget
Roomba
(she looks like she is in training for the next serial killer movie)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Also, since this is the time of year when we are up to our ears at the rescue with mom cats and kittens, but also with single kittens, mom took in another single and she is in the foster room with Fate and Mopar.
Meet Lane. She was left at one of our rescue's partner stores in a carrier all by herself....no note, no nothing. She has been tested (negative) and vaccinated and met the boys on Tuesday. They spent a good deal of time getting up in her personal space and she spent that same time telling them to get lost. She is a little bit smaller than Fate and Mopar but definitely holding her own.

Random Fridays

If you are anywhere near Ohio, there is a big event this weekend at the Franklin County Fairgrounds. Fetch A Friend and Shop Local got together for a huge shopping and pet adoption event. 11-4 Saturday and Sunday. Mom will be out there both days with Colony Cats and is hoping to take Roomba and Cipher.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Mom is a little concerned about Anastasia. She is taking good care of the kittens but certainly isn't eating much to keep herself and 3 kittens going. Mom gave her some canned food Tuesday night and she ate it, ate most of another can Wednesday night but wouldn't touch anything Thursday morning. Mom spoke to the rescue and they may try an appetite stimulant just to jump start her.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

what? mini panthers are tasty

Good news: Cipher is now neutered!! So he can be put on the website and we can start searching for his forever home.

In other news, Cipher seems to think it is a giant game to see if he can get OUT of the foster room before mom gets IN the foster room. The other night he made it out and mom gave up and left him out for a while as she spent time with Mopar and Fate and cleaned and fed everyone. She came back out and he was having a blast so she let him run around for a little longer. He headed down the steps and must have stopped a couple of steps from the top. Goldfish wandered over (keep in mind she did KNOW he was loose in the house), his head popped up over the edge of the steps, and Goldfish went FULL Halloween cat on him - though no hissing, just all fluffed up.

Mopar is still kind of suspicious of mom. She is thinking about maybe moving him to a smaller crate in the living room for a couple of days. It tends to work with scaredy/feral type kittens to help them friendly up some. Not sure WHY it works, but it tends to. Of course that will leave a very whiny Fate in the kitten room by himself if Cipher goes to the adoption event all weekend. Oh well - mom says she won't be home to listen to him complain about it. MOL
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
you really going out looking like that?
(honestly we never know quite what that girl is thinking,
but she sure looks like she has opinions about everything)
the other kittens
Mopar and his tongue
He is doing....OK. He is out a lot when mom isn't home but still
isn't too sure about being held. She has started giving them some
canned food in the evening and is going to use that as bribery.
Fate
The boy is a lover. Once he makes weight and is available for
adoption, some very lucky family is going to get a great kitten.
yes - there is a cat on the other side of the door
so concerned about everything
no Fate, you really can't fit through that opening
Darth Cipher
That boy and his snot. He is on a second round of antibiotics and has been nebulized a few times to help him breath better. Seems to work for a few days and then we are back to hearing him breath across the room. However - he isn't sneezing green snot and heaven knows he is active and eating and being his dorky self. The rescue is concerned it may be a polyp but the only way to really know is knock him out and stick a scope up his nose. We aren't there yet, but that may end up being an option. Of course, he hasn't been neutered yet and therefore can't be adopted yet either. In the meantime, he is very BORED in the kitten room with the littler boys and will happily howl his complaints in the evening.
