Opt to Adopt and Fundraiser

As most of you know, in addition to our local rescue, we are big fans of Miss Chrystal and Winnie's Wish over at Daily Dose of Dogs. Well, if you haven't heard by now, they are having a fundraiser to build another cat house. They are at max capacity....so if you have ever considered adopting, now is the time. And don't let distance stop you - we have helped get kitties to California and Canada!!

You can go to their GoFundMe site and donate.

Or....an auction is being organized:

Here are those ready for new homes:

Random Fridays

In addition to the gingerbread house, mom bought some snowflakes to put on the window. So far we have lost 3 - Mo took two down and one fell off cause the window is so cold.

Our friends at the White Dog Diary are part of a charity call Paws to People ... set up charitable funding to help find cures for cancer in pets along with other diseases through comparative studies as to how diseases effect everyone - people and pets. They have an auction going right now on their facebook page (click here) - you need to like the page so they can contact you if you win. The click on an item you want to bid on and leave a note. We have bids on a couple of things.

Our friend Miss Andrea of Celestial Kitties - mom to Leo, Glitter and Cashmere, is having another FUNdraiser to help Miss Chrystal and the kitties of Winnie's Wish. This year it is beds and they look awesome!!

We've had some questions about the "magic" microchips. Here's the deal - Tim, Tom and Mo were not microchipped when they were adopted. Some time after that, a local vet with the university here was doing a study on cat collars (you can read the study here). As part of the study, the boys had to wear collars for 6 months and were microchipped for free. No one said anything about them taking temps. The first time our mobile vet came, she scanned one of the boys and couldn't figure out why the number was flicking back and forth...then realized one was the chip number and the other was a temp for the cat. How cool???  Only, she said later she checked with the chip company and they claim to have no idea and don't market the chips that way..... which sounds weird to us. In case you want to check, the boys all have Home Again microchips.

Random Fridays......

Mom found a new website: Micro Chip Lookup  It is a universal lookup site where you can enter any chip number and it will give you the company information so you can contact them for owner information. Tell your rescues about this.....

We have good adoption news......Judy went home on Monday with her new moms. They have two dogs (ages 12 and 6) and are going to give her all the time to adjust. And Nurdle went home on Wednesday night with a very nice young couple.

Judy's new mom called our mom on Wednesday night. Judy's new name is Smudge and she is doing very well. She has had one meeting with the dogs - not so bad - she gave them the halloween cat routine but the dogs were on leashes so she was fine. They are going to work with everyone more over the weekend but are committed to making it work. YEAH - we love those kind of adopters. :)

 Judy and Nurdle.....just awwwww

Gin and Maxine at Petco - Max is still looking for her home

Mom gets emails from Tucker (former known as Whiskey) about how he is doing. And she had asked mom a few times about Gin. Mom emailed her earlier in the week to let her know that Gin had been adopted.....and she sent us this picture of Tucker (apparently that bed used to belong to his big brother):

Allie the momma cat (before her release)
Mom here: I have a story to share from the other morning. Let me start out by saying this - I love my Dad. He doesn't always "get" what I am doing with rescue, but I love him.

He and my mom are trying to buy a piece of property and I am faxing the documents back and forth for them. Dad called Wednesday night and said he had one more thing and he would bring it over Thursday morning. He called when he was close and since I was ready to leave for work, I headed down to the garage. My normal routine is to open the door into the garage, yell good morning to Allie (our feral momma cat to the alcohol kittens) and then open the garage door (then feed her and leave). When the door went up, she was sitting in the middle of the driveway - which is pretty typical. I tied my shoes and told her she needed to move since Dad was coming.

She back up to the sidewalk when he pulled his truck around. We spoke for a couple of minutes and then I stuck my head around the front of the truck to be sure where Allie was before he drove off. I told him it was ok to go cause the feral I care for was sitting on the sidewalk. Dad looked out the window of the truck at her, looked back and me and said "I thought it was a cat."

ummmmmm, yeah. Without laughing (though I couldn't get the grin off my face), I explained that cat is her species and feral is her temperment and that across the drive was as close as we got but that I care for her. And then of course there was the obligatory "dad lecture" about making sure not to leave the garage door open too far.

Mom is thankful - Tim not so much....

Mom has asked and the CB is going to try to set up an auction to diffuse some of the cost for the medical care the gemstone kittens incurred along with their spay/neuters. Mom knew when the kittens came from Miss Chrystal in Illinois that she was responsible for them. She feels that way about all her fosters. But she never anticipated that they would get so sick - no one can....it happens more often than not - especially in rescue. No animal is allowed to suffer here.....so she got them to the vet.

(THANK YOU Ann for the graphic.....mom is all choked up from the offers to help)

Now, Bourbon and Moonshine are most likely going to need dentals as well as their adult top canines grew in - but their baby teeth didn't fall out. So they have 4 top canine fangs....and inflamed gums....and dragon breath (stand back - it really is lethal). The rescue, like many others, is struggling. They took in a kitten that had to have her tail amputated due to abuse. And then October 31st they took in 2 black kittens that had been set on fire (yes, you did read that right). And they took the alcohol kittens and the gemstones kittens (that Miss Chrystal originally saved) as a favor to us.

So, if you have something you would like to donate, please see above for information. Mom says she hates asking for help, but she is going to have to bend her pride a little. It was hard for her to admit she needs help. But last night she was laying in bed.....Cory seems to be sliding backwards, Maestro has developed a strange limp, and Junior and Spud got into it - twice around 12:30am. We hate to tell people this, but mom was laying in bed and almost cried. It is hard to care so much and feel overwhelmed. So, THANKS

Tuesday was interesting.  We didn't get breakfast in a timely manner. The kitts and Cleo did, but not the rest of us. Then it happened.......

Tim was uncerimoniously grabbed and shoved in the PTU. He put up a good fight, but mom overpowered him. He started singing the warrior song and Tommy came over to check on him.

And then we got distracted by breakfast. (sorry Tim)

Mom hauled him off in the car and he was gone ALL DAY!!!

He came back moaning and groaning about a weird v-e-t and a hospital and dogs and funny smells. And he wasn't walking too straight either.

Mom said he needed his teeths cleaned. He did very well but did have to have a couple of molars in the back removed. He was ALL ABOUT the canned food when he got home - mom had to stand guard as the rest of us wanted it too!!! By morning he was pretty much back to normal. He is on an aunty-biotic for a few days....and put up a fight with mom that first night (mom has the wound to prove it....and his toenails were just trimmed too!).
