Wood Bead Pumpkin DIY

DIY

Gather a few simple materials together to make these festive wood bead pumpkins this fall – they make a beautiful fall accent when placed around the home!

Wood Pumpkin Pumpkin

It’s still quite a bit warm here in Phoenix but we’re inching closer and closer to fall. The thought of pumpkins and fall festivals is super exciting – everyone wants to enjoy cooler weather.

Just as exciting is this wood bead pumpkin craft that you can do at home with your kids.

Add this to the list of many other fun pumpkin-themed activities:

  • Using a dryer vent to make pumpkins to display at your home or office
  • Toilet Paper Pumpkin DIY
  • Rolled Paper Pumpkin Craft
  • Pumpkin Play-Doh

This wood bead pumpkin is super easy to make and can be completely customized. If you don’t like orange beads you can swap them out to be a blue, or even white. Use larger beads for a larger pumpkin or smaller beads for something like a mini pumpkin, too.

Supplies:

  • (4) 18-inch pieces of 24 gauge floral wire
  • (1) 1 inch piece of 24 gauge floral wire
  • wire cutters and needle nose pliers
  • (at least 97) 10mm wood beads (your choice of color)

Note: If you are using larger beads, you’ll want to use longer pieces of wire so adjusting the wire lengths above is necessary.

Instructions:

Gather the wire pieces together and make sure the ends are even. Twist the (1) 24-gauge piece of wire over them in the center so that the wire stays in place.

Carefully thread the small wire over and under as you weave it through the other wires. Keep the long wires spaced out evenly as you progress. When you are done weaving the small wire (it’ll be almost web-like), tuck the end of the wire under and then trim off the excess with wire cutters.

Start threading your beads on each of the longer wires – you’ll want to put 12 beads on each. If you used larger beads, you will need to adjust that number accordingly.

Once you have filled up each of the long wires, gather the beaded wires at the top of the pumpkin (think stem) and put one bead over all of the wires. Pull the wires tight so that the bead sits snugly next to the other beads.

Twist all but one of the wires around each other. Once twisted, fold the wires over to ensure they don’t come undone. Leave that one wire out and twist it to look like a stem/leaf on the pumpkin.
