    HP Sprocket VS Canon Ivy
    5 out of 5 stars
    HP Sprocket VS Canon Ivy
TLDRSprocket vs Ivy: Comes down to personal preference . . . everything from instructions, ease of use, to Android app are nearly identical. HP Sprocket prints are a teensy bit higher res, better gradations of color, but slightly sepia-ish. Canon Ivy's portraits look better (less sharp is good here), but prints are higher contrast. See photos.BOTTOM LINEThey're both fun, easy to set up and use, and produce prints which any "normal" person would find perfectly acceptable, if not just plain awesome. ZINK photo paper packets are inter-changeable: I tried several kinds in both printers & found no difference in the quality, so buy whatever's on sale! Prints end up being about 50 cents each. (NOTE- the blue card in each pack is NOT interchangeable, so save the HP card and reuse it when you use other brands of paper in the HP Sprocket, etcetera. Also, I don't know if it's true for all mini-printers, but HP doesn't require the card inserted with every re-load.)DISCLAIMER: Both the HP Sprocket and the Canon Ivy produced nice clear photos. I'm an artist and a photographer. A lot of my criticisms are for pixel-peepers and other weirdos like me.REVIEWI bought the Sprocket with an open mind, looking for something that gave me "good enough" quality to paste snapshots into a casual travel journal at a reasonable cost. Having said that, I AM a serious photographer, so I did a lot of PREsearch, and I wouldn't have been surprised if I'd felt the need to return whatever printer I purchased. Based on the low cost-per-print, reported quality and ease of printing, and decent reviews of the Android app, I chose the HP Sprocket. After trying it out for a week, I bought the Canon Ivy, in order to compare the two, figuring I'd return one of them. HAH! I like both of them so much I'm not returning either, though I am giving one to my middle son, to justify the purchase. Just FYI-- he's a late-20s tech nerd, and, after test printing with me, he doesn't care which one he gets-- they are VERY, very similar. After testing and using for a couple of weeks, I'm very pleased with the HP. If I don't update this review-- I'm STILL pleased.PRINT QUALITYI was happily surprised by the print quality of both the Sprocket and Ivy! There's a teeny bit of fringing I'd complain about in a larger/more expensive printer, but it's not troublesome in these small, just-for-fun prints. I'd also nit-pick about the sepia-ish tone of the HP prints. I tried a filter in the HP app and another in Snapseed, neither successful in offsetting the tone, and the HP filter noticeably reduced print quality, as did filters in the Canon app. Any nit-picking of the Canon prints would be due to loss of subtle gradations, especially in darker areas.NOTE-- The ever-so-slightly sepia tone doesn't bother me enough to return the HP printer, or even to mess around with more filters. I think it's just an artist thing, honestly. A friend owns the Fujifilm printer, and the prints are ridiculously dark-- I would have returned THAT!SET-UPThe set-up process couldn't possibly have been any faster or simpler. Slide the top open, drop in a stack of paper, and go. Connected immediately via Bluetooth, app didn't force me to sign up for an account online-- though location must be enabled to print from phone-- no problem finding chosen folder or photo on device.NOTE- The super-short instruction card made me think I should lift THEN slide to open the printer, when it's kind of the opposite-- slide to lift.ANDOne mildly funny side-note: as a darkroom-trained photographer, I automatically feel a jolt of panic every time I see the "unexposed" photo paper just sitting right out there in the open.SIZEHP is smaller than expected, very light, and has a strangely soft, pet-able surface. The blue is very dark, kind of Iris-tinted, very pretty. Canon is slightly larger, shiny, and slippery if you aren't careful. The rose gold isn't sparkly, but more metallic/pearly. PS- Buy the case.

I bought this little printer for my moms 50th birthday and it was exactly what I was looking for!! We created a "guest book" photo album, just snapped and printed at our little photo booth. It was perfect, easy and helped make the day memorable.
For a small, instant, no-ink printer the print quality was good. Obviously if you are looking for the pictures to turn out crystal clear and perfect as if you just had Walgreens or Walmart print them....this might not be the printer for you. There is no ink needed (which is awesome and hassle free) - don't expect top-grade print quality.
Battery life wasn't amazing, but we also printed A LOT of little memories! I would say about every 15 prints the battery was low, but the good thing is it still does the job while its charging.
The HP app you download to send the pics for print is very simple and easy to use. It also worked using other brands of zink paper as long as you keep the blue HP card from a pack of HP brand paper. The blue card is needed each time you do a paper refill and recognizes you are using the right paper for the machine so just hold on to one HP blue card to use if you're going to buy a different brand of zink paper.

Have had a Sprocket for a couple of years so I bought one for my daughter. We love it! Easy to use and great for journaling. Pics can sometimes print a little dark, so I adjust brightness before printing. Otherwise a great on-the-go printer.

My daughter wanted this for Christmas and now we've had a few months to use it. It's adorable, can literally fit in your coat pocket, lightweight, portability, uses Bluetooth along with a free app you download from Google Play or Apple store. Simple to use, ships anywhere in the U.S. and uses 2"×3" stick (or not) photo paper. You dont have to peel the back off of the paper. It's perfect to print all of those special photos that we (let's face it) never get around to printing on our phones. If you are wondering whether or not to buy this, I'm sure you'll find it a great purchase. I know we love it!

I like the size and it is easy to charge it, no need of batteries.
The thing that I don't like is that the quality of the photo is not good, it comes to yellow and even though I tried different filters it is hard to get a good one once it is printed. I have to print around 4 times with different filters to finally get one that looks not nice but okay. I'm kinda disappointed about this printer, and honestly I think I would recommend a Fujifilm Instax since the quality of the image is very similar in both cameras but HP is more expensive than the Instax

The printer print pink hue color and I called customer service to trouble shoot the problem. A lady tech support was attempting to help me trouble shoot the problem. After an hour on the phone, she gave up and said I had to call their tech support department. I thought she was the tech support person. But she said she can't help with this and I had to call a different company to help. So she gave me a phone number and hung up the phone so quickly. However, that phone number she told me to call doesn't work at all. That was so ridiculous!

So I called Amazon with no hope to complaint about the issue. But that's why I love purchasing things from amazon. Their customer service is excellent. The representative found out the issue and feel bad for my situation, he said I can return the defected printer and he will send me a new printer. The new printer's print quality is better than the previous one. However, I would not buy from this producer/company again because of terrible customer service and poor product.

Love it. I was concerned the colour wouldn’t come out nicely like a regular picture but so far it’s been great. I no longer have to go to the store to print pictures all the time and it’s been great to use pictures in baby book. This is a great tool for scrapbooking especially if you buy the sticker paper. I have had no issues using the product or the app you have to download to your phone. The app comes with a lot of fun edits like boarders and stickers.

I love the colour of this HP Sprocket! I also love how quickly it shipped with Amazon Prime even during Canada Post strike. I am taking it on a trip to Costa Rica so that I have an instant memory of my trip! I bought a hard case to carry it in as well and it holds everything I need it to. Picture Quality is amazing and I love the photo edits I can do in the app right away.

I bought this for my brother for Christmas and he loves it! He's been printing photos nonstop. It works perfectly and the quality of the prints is amazing. It is small enough that he can take it with him everywhere he goes. The colour of the printer itself is really cool too, as the blue is a bit iridescent.
