All About Spy x Family

Spy x Family is a manga and anime series that follows Loid Forger, a spy who must create a fake family in order to complete a mission. In an interesting twist of events, Loid’s fake wife, Yor, is a skilled assassin, and his adopted daughter, Anya, is a telepath. Loid and Yor are unaware of each other’s true identities, but since Anya is a telepath, she knows the truth of the situation. The family also takes in a Great Pyrenees dog named Bond. The story is set in a fictional version of Cold War Europe, with the two rival countries of Westalis and Ostania being inspired by West Germany and East Germany.[1]

Here’s a quick overview of the main characters in Spy x Family:

  • Loid Forger: A skilled spy from Westalis who goes by the code name “Twilight,” who sets out to create a fake family in order to complete an undercover mission in Ostania. He is intelligent, logical, calm, determined, aloof, and a master of disguise.
  • Yor Forger: A lethal assassin nicknamed "The Thorn Princess" who agrees to marry Loid. In her home life, Yor is caring, nurturing, and kind, but she can also be merciless and deadly when the situation calls for it.
  • Anya Forger: A telepathic orphan child who gets adopted by Loid and Yor Forger. Because she can read minds, Anya knows the true identities of her adoptive parents and secretly supports them with their missions, but she doesn’t disclose the truth to them.
  • Bond Forger: A Pyrenean Mountain Dog who becomes the pet of the Forger family. He was previously a canine test subject for an Ostanian research group, Bond has the power to glimpse the future, but only Anya knows of his ability.
  • Becky Blackbell: Anya’s loyal and devoted best friend at school. She is slightly spoiled, but also sweet and goodhearted.
  • Damian Desmond: One of Anya and Becky’s classmates who appears arrogant at first, but is actually dealing with deep insecurity and a neglectful family life.
  • Sylvia Sherwood: Twilight’s handler and main contact who manages his missions as a spy.
  • Fiona Frost: An intelligence agent with the codename “Nightfall” who serves as Twilight’s partner.
  • Yuri Briar: Yor’s 20-year-old younger brother who works as an official at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as a front, but is actually a second lieutenant at the State Security Service who has been tasked with hunting down Twilight and other rebels and spies.
  • Franky Franklin: An informant who knows of Twilight’s identity as a spy and gives information to him. He also serves as a babysitter and caretaker for Anya and Bond, and he is a hopeless romantic.
