FIVE THINGS you need to know about the first Lenovo VR

Above Article Content Ad

In today’s launch of Lenovo‘s latest Android smartphones comes an additional accessory which we believed to be the next big thing to be developed and partnered with a smartphone, the Lenovo VR (virtual reality) headset.

Lenovo Philippines launched VIBE K4 Note and VIBE X3, and what comes in as bundled item worth more or less P4,000 is a virtual reality (VR) headset.

We also believe that this introductory promo will only be made available with these two models of smartphone.

Later on, Lenovo will sell this VR as a stand-alone product.

Here are five things  you should know about the Lenovo VR headset

1. The VR headset is not made by Lenovo

The ANTVR headset which comes free when you buy either the Lenovo VIBE K4 Note or the Lenovo VIBE X3 is supplied by ANTVR, a virtual reality start up company based in Beijing China. You can double-check it in this website.

2. The ANTVR headset has no moving parts

We’ve tested the VR experience with some of the pre-installed video and games in the VIBE K4 Note earlier and we’ve noticed how lightweight the VR is. Aside from the spring that is used to open and close the VR, there are no button controls, no adjustment buttons and no connectivity control in the VR headset.

3. The ANTVR headset is backward compatible with Lenovo A7000 Plus

While the VR is currently tested and being marketed fo the K4 Note and X3, Lenovo confirmed it to Tech Patrol News that the ANTVR headset will also work on the A7000 Plus, and perhaps with the A7000 also (but we are not sure).

4. Learning curve when you are using eyeglasses

Our friend from TeknoGadyet is wearing an eyeglasses. When he tested the Lenovo VR earlier at the event he had a hard time enjoying the experience of the VR. He finds it uncomfortable and the video becomes laggy and blurred.

5. VR Glass X ThreaterMAX

To enable VR technology on the VIBE K4 Note, you have to enable TheaterMax by pressing the power button. With TheaterMax enabled, a video content can be converted into a virtual reality experience. Currently, this technology is available with K4 Note and X3.

Virtual Reality technology will be the next thing to be around the internet starting this year. As opposed to the wearables, which requires battery power, VR headsets can work as a stand-alone accessory. You might have seen contents in Youtube that requires VR headsets now. There are games that are now available for VR. With VR, you get into the actual action so to speak, you will be at the center of the war game you are playing.

In closing, we salute Lenovo for introducing yet another accessory that will trigger the talent of the developers. They will start creating content for VR consumption. And for the consumer, they will begin  to enjoy another experience coming out of the current device they hold. The conventional watching of videos and playing games will be brought to the next level.
