Greta Gerwig was faced with full Kenergy for her birthday after Ryan Gosling surprised her with a Barbie-themed flash mob.
The Barbie director celebrated her 40th birthday on Friday, August 4, and was bombarded with a group of Kens courtesy of the leading Ken himself. The Barbie movie's official TikTok account posted a video of Gerwig being surprised by a group of Kens — who entered the room wearing pink, and lip-synching and dancing to “I'm Just Ken,” the song Gosling sings in the film.
The music then switches to “Dance the Night Away” by Dua Lipa and a group of Barbies enter the room. The entire group performs the dance routine as seen in the movie, which Margot Robbie's “stereotypical Barbie” leads.
Gerwig is shown wiping away tears and laughing as the flash mob performs just for her. After the group finishes their dance number, they yell, “Happy Birthday, Greta!” Gerwig then proceeds to hug all the dancers and continues to cry tears of joy.
“Guess who planned this?” the person recording the video says.
“I have no idea,” Gerwig responds.
“Think of the bagpipes,” the person says, referencing the time Gosling sent a bagpiper to a Barbie sleepover.
“As Kens know…. Sometimes the only way to express your feelings is through song & dance,” the video caption read. “Ken Ryan sent these special Barbies and Kens to start Greta’s birthday with all the feelings!!”
