DVD and Blu-ray Releases for July 26th, 2011

Summer time at the box office is amazing. From the first weekend in May until sometime in August, there is usually an average of one $100 million dollar movie released per week. This year will have at least three months in a row with at least one $100 million film. On the home market, on the other hand, summer time is crappy. This year has been particularly tiresome, as the spring wasn't a fun time at the box office. The biggest release this week is Source Code, which was only a midlevel hit. To be fair, it is one of the best-reviewed wide releases of the year. On the other hand, neither the DVD nor the Blu-ray are exactly overloaded with extras. More...

Featured DVD Review: Scream of the Banshee

Scream of the Banshee starts with the words, "Syfy Presents", which is a really bad sign. But, it is also part of the After Dark Films label, which has had pretty good success in the past with their films. Expectations are therefore somewhere in-between those two companies. Is the film better than the average Syfy Original movie? Will it surprise and be better than the average After Dark release? Or will it surprise in an unpleasant way? More...

Limited Releases are Biutiful

This week's collection of limited releases includes a film that is already a worldwide hit, one that earned two Oscar nominations, one opening in more than 250 theaters, and others. It will be interesting to see if the critically acclaimed films can find audiences here, or if the wider releases can fill all of those theaters. More...
