Synopsis

Liu Jin-xi is a village craftsman whose quiet life is irrevocably shattered by the arrival of two notorious gangsters in the local general store. When Liu single-handedly saves the shopkeeper's life, he comes under investigation by detective Xu Bai-jiu. Convinced that Liu's martial arts mastery belies a hidden history of training by one of the region's vicious clans, Xu doggedly pursues the shy hero, and draws the attention of China's criminal underworld in the process

It is both a great week and a terrible week on the home market. On the high end, Django Unchained is coming out. It is one of the biggest hits of the fall and one of the best reviewed films of the year. It would be a contender for Pick of the Week regardless how busy the week was. On the other hand, there are releases in the Amazon.com's top ten new releases for the week that would be filler on even an average week. After Django Unchained, there's no real depth this week. The Blu-ray Combo Pack doesn't have a lot of extras, but it is still worthy of Pick of the Week honors. More...

Per Theater Chart: New Releases are a Little Rusty

It was a rather slow week on the per theater chart with only two films topping the $10,000 mark, and none of them were massive hits. Rust and Bone rose to first place with an average of $12,369 in two theaters. It rose to top spot thanks to a miniscule 9% drop-off. Addicted to Limited Releases

There are not a lot of films on this week's list, but there are a couple that are earning overwhelmingly positive reviews. Both California Solo and Dragon are earning more than 80% positive reviews and hopefully one or both will find success in limited release. Also opening this week is Talaash and it could be an interesting film to keep an eye on, as Bollywood films are slowly becoming more mainstream. More...
