Forno Degli Amici excels in creating flavor combos you never knew you needed. A few examples: sun-dried tomato and toasted hazelnut bread, turmeric, lemon, and ginger loaves, and crunchy, airy pizzas stacked with shredded pork and potato. While the sweets aren’t as creative, they’re just as good. The chewy almond cookie with pistachio cream is ridiculously delicious, and the brutti ma buoni—“ugly but good” cookies—look a little wonky but deliver big on crunch and nutty sweetness. And if it’s the holiday season, don’t even think about leaving without a panettone.

In addition to Pizzarium, Gabriele Bonci has a panificio in the same neighborhood, serving equally fantastic pizza and sweets.
Forno da Milvio sits on a lively cobblestone street in sight of the Colosseum, but the baked goods are borderline too delicious for you to notice the landmark.
