New York City’s beloved Macy’s will always be an icon worthy of protecting, but unfortunately, some of the department store’s other, less historic locations have to get the ax. On Thursday, Macy’s Inc. confirmed it’d be shuttering 66 locations across the U.S., including nine in New York State and five in NYC. RECOMMENDED: Stadium Goods is closing its NYC store this month “Closing any store is never easy, but as part of our Bold New Chapter strategy, we are closing underproductive Macy’s stores to allow us to focus our resources and prioritize investments in our go–forward stores, where customers are already responding positively to better product offerings and elevated service,” said Tony Spring, chairman and chief executive officer of Macy’s Inc., in a statement. Which New York Macy’s locations are closing? The Queens Place Macy’s in Elmhurst, the Macy’s in Brooklyn’s Sheepshead Bay and on Fulton Street, the Staten Island Furniture location and at Fordham Place in the Bronx; Lake Success in New Hyde Park, Melville Mall in Huntington and Sunrise Mall in Massapequa on Long Island; and the location at the Mall at Greece Ridge in Rochester will be closing. You can see the full list here. Macy’s says the closure plan is meant to bring back sustainable and profitable sales growth by losing approximately 150 underproductive stores across a three-year period while investing in its “350 go-forward Macy’s locations” through fiscal 2026. You can read more about the strategy here....
Choosing a favorite restaurant in New York City is a joyful task with myriad possibilities depending on the occasion, mood and even the time of year. Your favorite dive, fine dining destination and neighborhood favorite might all occupy top spots on your personal best list in spite of their disparate qualities.  Our list of NYC’s 50 best restaurants is the same, spanning each of those categories and more to comprise a catalogue of all the places we wish we were at right now. They don’t have to be the newest or the most recently reviewed, just places that we’ve been to and want to return to again and again, and that we think that you will, too.  RECOMMENDED: NYC’s best bars right now Updated January 2025: We added Hav & Mar and Scarr's Pizza. We removed Untable and Gator. Note: Many of the city’s best chefs, restaurants and concepts have been welcomed into the Time Out Market. Because that is the highest honor we can award, establishments related to the market have not been ranked here, but you can see them below.  Stay in the Loop: Sign up for our free weekly newsletter to get the latest in New York City news, culture and dining.

As multiple fires continue to rage on across L.A. county and thousands of Angelinos have lost their homes and belongings, it's easy to feel helpless while watching the destruction from afar. But despite the fact that we're thousands of miles from our sister city, New Yorkers have been scrambling to find ways they can help out. This weekend and into early next week, the collective Migos Events and the restaurant Viva Toro are partnering up to send clothes to those affected by the L.A. fires.  RECOMMENDED: Here are all the ways New Yorkers can help out the victims of the Los Angeles wildfires To donate clothes, head over to 987 Grand Street in East Williamsburg, where Viva Toro is located. They'll be accepting donations from on Sunday, January 12; Tuesday, January 14; and Wednesday, January 15 4pm until 7pm. They'll be accepting women's, men's, kids', and babies' clothing, shoes, and accessories that are either gently used or new. All donations must come in bags. Once you drop off your items, Migo Events and Viva Toro will ship the donations to Salvation Army L.A., which is helping those directly affected by the wildfires.  Flyer: By Aleexx Martinez "Migo Events number one priority is community. As we give a space for people to come to dance and celebrate Latino culture. It's important for there to be a place for our community to pour into each other," Paulina Montiel, who co-runs Migo Events, tells Time Out. "Its important for us no matter where you live/ from to come...

Comedian and Dungeons & Dragons Game Master Brennan Lee Mulligan’s campaign “The Unsleeping City” on the popular show Dimension 20 explores what New York City might be like if it were actually magical … where Bethesda Fountain comes alive, rat kings reign supreme and the NYPL lions act as gatekeepers. And for the first time ever, the fantastical show’s cast members will play the game live at Madison Square Garden during “Gauntlet at the Garden,” on January 24, making it the largest actual play show in the U.S. Amazingly, the show sold out all 15,000 tickets in four days! This month, he’s our digital cover star to herald the rise of D&D in the city with help from his show. But he’s frequently back home to visit and says he misses this magical city every day. “New York's home,” he tells Time Out New York. “Los Angeles has been nothing but kind to me and I have my beautiful family here, and work is great. I miss New York every day. I miss riding on the subway. I miss Union Square, I miss Bethesda Fountain. I miss my little corner.”  Photograph: Sela Shiloni...

New York City Restaurant Week’s winter edition is back! More than 500 restaurants are offering special pre fixe specials citywide from January 21 to February 9. This year’s price points are $30, $45 and $60 for brunch, lunch and dinner menus on the days of each venue’s choosing. With so many sensational spots, and so little time to taste them all, it can be hard to narrow the field. Luckily, I have thumbed through the list and highlighted the top options to snag that reservation. Check out the best places to visit and everything to order during NYC Restaurant Week this winter.
