Migos Rapper Takeoff Is Dead at Age 28

The rapper Takeoff—born Kirshnik Khari Ball—was reportedly shot dead in Houston, Texas early on the morning of Tuesday, November 1. At 28, Takeoff was the youngest member of the rap group Migos. He was allegedly with his uncle, fellow Migos member Quavo, at a private party at a bowling alley in downtown Houston when an altercation broke out and Takeoff suffered a gunshot wound to the head or neck.

“When you’re around Takeoff, there’s a sense of peacefulness about his aura,” Takeoff’s lawyer Drew Findling told the New York Times. “He listens to you, he looks at you, he’s more focused on what you have to say than what he has to say. The world was starting to learn about Takeoff. It was his time to shine.”

A Houston Police Department spokesperson said on Tuesday that they were waiting for the medical examiner’s office to identify the victim and notify their family before confirming Takeoff’s death, but impromptu expressions of grief have already broken out on social media:
