On a positive note when I got home from the track I had a present waiting! The stock reeds were cracking and had chips in them. Hoping to notice a difference. Going to try and get back to the track in a week. V Force 2 install was pretty easy thanks to member: SANDBLASTER just had to modify my carb boot and it mounted right up no issues. Now if only I can figure out my coolant leak problem...
Some sort of thread locker on the bolts is your friend
The Shop
Bitchin' K5 you've got there!! I'm in So Cal too, would be cool to meet up at a track some time and roost some 450's!
This is how I bought it from a friend of mine. It's a 2003.
Currently sits like this. Still plan to do gold hoops and some other odds and ends. Biggest upgrade so far was a 2014 YZ250F front end. Those SSS forks were a game changer!! Had Emig Racing build custom triples to except them, although the stock KX500 tripes are a close fit. Have yet to install them, but I will be trying the 132.5mm dog bones that I bought from Emig Racing as well. Favorite mod is the '89 KX250 tank!
Letting the Good Times Roll at Perris a few weeks ago!
I put a turbine core on tonight. I know most of you will think I’m stupid for not getting the power core. Problem is I live in Tree hugger land CA and plan on riding this 500 in the mountains and places where I could get jammed up for no spark arrestor. I must admit I dig the style of the turbinecore especially with Ol Glory on it.
I went to Pala last week and was OJ’n every single jump having way too much fun trying to hold on for dear life and in the process broke my clutch perch. So my next purchase is going to be a works connection set up so that doesn’t happen again.
Quick question... my drain plug bolt isn’t quite tightening all the way. I got a new bolt and still same problem. Threads on the bolt and the case look good. Possible that I got the wrong bolt or should I work on the case a bit? Any tips would be appreciated.
How to,,,,,
considering I did it in my garage with limited resources I think it looks
good enough for me.

I will have something cool to show you guys in less than two weeks. Stay tuned
FasterUSA took my wheels and hubs were cerakote burnt bronze and laced up to Excel wheels with all new spokes and hardware.
The guys over at Faster are top notch and their quality of work is second to none. Every little detail they don's skimp on anything I highly recommend checking them out, especially with rebuilding these old bikes. My hubs came out better than new.
Finished them up with a Dirt Trix sprocket, just waiting on my chain.
Going to be get graphics made up soon, thinking of doing a more retro look, let me know what you guys think.
Thanks for looking.
Most that you can find are beat bad...
A buddy of mine just bought one that was mint (seriously mint) for 600 dollars.
It fits right on.
And the KX500 shrouds bolt right one with no mods.
So buy it, bolt it on, and ride it :-)
Another option is the Bormi Aluminum tanks.
Last I checked they are about 1200 USD plus shipping.
They are modeled on the KX250 tank.
Nothing will make you faster than suspension that is set up for your riding ability and conditions.
I have done the 450 swap for a few good riders and built the rear shock to match.
Worlds of difference.
For me I can ride one gear higher over the nasty whoop sections than with the stock set up.
If your considering it, stop wasting time and do it
Pit Row
Upgrading your suspension and brakes is a great place to go.
They handle so much better when correctly set up you won't believe how much faster you can ride.
nice work on the KX. just read thru the thread and it gets me fired up to keep going on my kx 500 that I have been cleaning up after its been just sitting in the garage for years...
will share a picture soon
