You thinking of matching the hubs to the bronze on the clutch cover?

Went to Milestone MX here in California. Bike ran great vibrated a couple of bolts loose. Will fix that this week. One problem I am having that I could use some help with is getting coolant into my gear oil. I'm going to have to take it apart and figure out whats wrong. I'm sure when I replaced everything and did the cerakote I probably put something back together ass backwards. Any help on that would be appreciated.

On a positive note when I got home from the track I had a present waiting! The stock reeds were cracking and had chips in them. Hoping to notice a difference. Going to try and get back to the track in a week. V Force 2 install was pretty easy thanks to member: SANDBLASTER just had to modify my carb boot and it mounted right up no issues. Now if only I can figure out my coolant leak problem...

On the oil in the gear box, 99/100 it's the water pump impeller shaft and or seal.
Some sort of thread locker on the bolts is your friend Cool

Bitchin' K5 you've got there!! I'm in So Cal too, would be cool to meet up at a track some time and roost some 450's!

This is how I bought it from a friend of mine. It's a 2003.

Currently sits like this. Still plan to do gold hoops and some other odds and ends. Biggest upgrade so far was a 2014 YZ250F front end. Those SSS forks were a game changer!! Had Emig Racing build custom triples to except them, although the stock KX500 tripes are a close fit. Have yet to install them, but I will be trying the 132.5mm dog bones that I bought from Emig Racing as well. Favorite mod is the '89 KX250 tank!

Hell yeah thanks for sharing. I’m digging the kx250 tank I would go that route but I ride a lot of desert. Also love the front end you went with. I hope I can get a front end one day I just haven’t come across the right set up.

I put a turbine core on tonight. I know most of you will think I’m stupid for not getting the power core. Problem is I live in Tree hugger land CA and plan on riding this 500 in the mountains and places where I could get jammed up for no spark arrestor. I must admit I dig the style of the turbinecore especially with Ol Glory on it.

I went to Pala last week and was OJ’n every single jump having way too much fun trying to hold on for dear life and in the process broke my clutch perch. So my next purchase is going to be a works connection set up so that doesn’t happen again.

Quick question... my drain plug bolt isn’t quite tightening all the way. I got a new bolt and still same problem. Threads on the bolt and the case look good. Possible that I got the wrong bolt or should I work on the case a bit? Any tips would be appreciated.

Finally got around to doing my swingarm, not quite 100% but
considering I did it in my garage with limited resources I think it looks
good enough for me.

Before

After

I will have something cool to show you guys in less than two weeks. Stay tuned Smile

Okay here she is guys.
FasterUSA took my wheels and hubs were cerakote burnt bronze and laced up to Excel wheels with all new spokes and hardware.
The guys over at Faster are top notch and their quality of work is second to none. Every little detail they don's skimp on anything I highly recommend checking them out, especially with rebuilding these old bikes. My hubs came out better than new.

Finished them up with a Dirt Trix sprocket, just waiting on my chain.

Going to be get graphics made up soon, thinking of doing a more retro look, let me know what you guys think.

Thanks for looking.

What is all involved in the KX250 Tank swap? Looks Great. I have a 1996 KX500 and my stock purple tank is leaking gas out the side behind the shroud. Just got the bike after trading my tricked out 2000 Honda TRX 400EX for it

The first trick to swapping a 89 KX250 to a KX500 is finding one Shocked
Most that you can find are beat bad...
A buddy of mine just bought one that was mint (seriously mint) for 600 dollars.
It fits right on.
And the KX500 shrouds bolt right one with no mods.
So buy it, bolt it on, and ride it :-)

Another option is the Bormi Aluminum tanks.
Last I checked they are about 1200 USD plus shipping.
They are modeled on the KX250 tank.

This Bormi tank is for a customer of mine that wanted the tank polished and Cerakoted clear.

The newer fork upgrade is the best mod.

Agreed.
Nothing will make you faster than suspension that is set up for your riding ability and conditions.
I have done the 450 swap for a few good riders and built the rear shock to match.
Worlds of difference.
For me I can ride one gear higher over the nasty whoop sections than with the stock set up.
If your considering it, stop wasting time and do it Cool

Looking good.
Upgrading your suspension and brakes is a great place to go.
They handle so much better when correctly set up you won't believe how much faster you can ride.

Yeah pretty good, I was happy with my pace, had some good battles, actually got a descent start in the 3rd and final moto but at the end of lap 1 I went over a berm avoiding 2 downed bikes/riders and stalled her, took about 10-12 kicks to fire up and the pack was long gone, not sure I even care where I finished Laughing
