Going forward I will compare all future hibachi experiences to this one. I took my dad here for his birthday tonight and when I say they go over and above here, I mean they go over and above here. One of the employees does balloon garlands and backdrops for every holiday and season and the restaurant tonight was all decorated for birthdays and graduations.
You know the food is good when reservations are recommended and the waiting area is full. I have never walked into a hibachi restaurant before and seen it so packed.
We kicked off with some drinks and I highly recommend the shrimp toast, it's incredible. We then had miso soup and the side salad and then it was time for our dinner show.
And what a show it was! I have never seen an onion volcano like they do here and it's amazing. I was so full but loved to continue watching everything get cooked and prepped.
The staff then surprised my dad with a special birthday ice cream and I got to meet the owner, who is an absolutely wonderful human being. Chicago, this is the place to make a reservation and come to for celebrating all the things in life. Great food, great atmosphere, just all around an amazing restaurant that I know my dad and I will be talking about for years to come. This was his first hibachi experience and I know he'll never forget it.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Lenore J.South Side, Chicago, IL030Mar 14, 2025

Our server was very attentive. Food was served hot and was tasty. Next time, I will ask to have the pork omitted from the Shrimp Lobster Sauce I ordered - (which was offered but I declined). Otherwise, food would have gotten 5 stars, too.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Shamontiel V.Chicago, ILJan 3, 2025Updated review
I absolutely LOVE this place. I have gone here so many times I lost count. It was my go-to restaurant spot when I came home from college and became the primary restaurant that me and my grandfather went to (and argued over almond cookies if there was an odd number). Everything I eat there is good, but my go-to is Thai fried tofu rice (medium spicy), spring rolls (with tofu), edamame and occasionally a whiskey sour. I may branch out here and there when someone is with me (like trying the Veggie Medley Delight). I Just expect everything to be incredible always and fully understand why the parking lot is usually packed and there's a line. It's worth it.
The only reason I'm switching my review from five stars to four stars is because if you order online, the receipt claims they'll text you. They DO NOT. A family member waited for about 45 minutes. Finally, I mentioned to him that I usually go pick up the order as soon as I buy it online. He insisted that they will text. I shrugged and walked away. He called them. They said they would text when the meal was ready but "it wasn't ready yet." Before he could even put the phone on the charger, a text came through saying the meal was ready. Like I said, they do not keep up with texting when meals are ready. Just go wait in the lobby. Or call to check on your meal so you're not waiting a long time.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Dec 27, 2022Previous reviewI'm surprised this restaurant doesn't have a hire rating. I've been going here since high school with friends, and it still remains undefeated for me. It's my go-to with family who doesn't know what to do with me (a 17-year vegetarian). Japanese and Thai food are the easy answer for where we can all find good dinner/lunch. The Thai fried rice with tofu and spring rolls are superb, but I do try a few other things every blue moon. Whoever makes their whiskey sours is always trying to be my best friend because they are never stingy with the liquor.
I didn't physically go in this past weekend, but I like how convenient it is to place an order online and pick it up in 20-30 minutes. I've done that a couple of times, and a family member has swooped it up. The food is always fresh, delicious, with just enough kick in it to be spicy. I've sat in here enough to picture the restaurant in my head right now. I can't recall ever having a bad experience here. And if I did it, it's not worth writing about.Aug 6, 2020Previous reviewI'd been comfortable ordering takeout or drive-thru by the time I even trusted a restaurant enough to leave. But this restaurant holds a special place in my heart due to high school memories, MANY arguments with my grandfather over who had the most almond cookies and quite a few birthday gatherings. I gave in and finally went to this restaurant to sit down. It was not my initial choice. It was someone special's birthday. As weird as a time as we're in, the restaurant took extra precaution to sanitize seats, waitresses had on full head gear and food was served carefully. Although I was bummed about there being no hot tea served and no almond cookies, the food was delicious per usual. If ever there was a restaurant that was worth the sit-down risk, this is one of the two that I'd agree to. As always, the customer service was top notch.
(Note: There is outdoor seating, but you would be required to order your food at carryout and just eat outside. Waiters don't come outside to wait on you. So if that's the case, you may as well just pick it up and take it home.)Mar 20, 2014Previous reviewI don't live near this neighborhood so any chance I'm that way I immediately suggest going to Chi Tung. I've dragged just about every family member I'm even halfway cool with to Chi Tung, and for my grandfather and I this is a regular dinner date. As a vegetarian, it's incredibly important to find fresh food. And the south side doesn't have a lot of vegetarian restaurants so I usually look to Asian restaurants when I want to go out to eat. No matter what else I decide to try, I always circle back to their Thai fried rice with tofu, spring rolls, California rolls and (during my pescatarian days) crab rangoon. The whiskey sours and chocolate martinis are a favorite when I've decided to partake in a little liquor, but I'm quite content with the lemonade outside of that.
The service is always quick, professional and easy to work with. There's one waitress there who is very chatty. Don't know her name, but she's been there for years and sometimes I have to be in the mood for her. When I am, I love her. When I'm not, sometimes she can make just one too many tip jokes (even though anybody I go with is always a pretty good tipper, including myself).
I can't say I've ever had a bad experience here, and I've been visiting this place since an old high school friend introduced it to me over 16 years ago.
The only con I can think of is it's almost always packed so don't think you're going to stroll in and just find a table anywhere. And there have been a couple of times where I could hear other guests' conversations and they could hear mine. I block it out. The nosier folks will be in your table so be careful what you say, especially at those bench tables that people share.
The parking is usually a catastrophe, and restaurant patrons aren't supposed to park at the nearby CVS. Quite honestly it doesn't matter. If I had to park four blocks away, I'd still be a loyal customer of this restaurant. The food is worth waiting a few minutes for people to come outside to move their cars. - Dawn W.Ala Moana, Honolulu, HI4510Jun 18, 2025
Food is good, but if you are coming for hibachi for lunch, be aware that is not ready until 12:00 at the earliest. I did not find this posted anywhere, so we came when they opened at 11:30 and had to wait.

I have passed this place for years. My girlfriends decided it would be a good place to meet up. We were seated immediately. Served water immediately and given menus. The server was attentive. She got every order right and the food was hot and plentiful. Will definitely be back soon.

The food is absolutely excellent. The experience felt a little rushed, and the chairs are too close together. Other than that', I enjoyed my birthday dinner there.

The sushi was great and so was the show, they cooked the food right in front of us and put on a flame show. The service wasn't bad, the restaurant itself was nice. Restaurant has changed, but I'll order from here again

I wish I would've liked this place more because I remember how good it used to be. Haven't been here in years and went today and the hibachi chef was very fun and engaging with the customers, which ultimately made the experience. The food on the other hand....
The salad they brought out was very good. The "soup" as they call it but simply broth with two paper thin slices of mushroom and some green onion sprinkled on top--nothing more.
Onto the main event , I don't know if it's the butter or the seasoning or the combination of the two, but either way ALL the food was extremely salty. It also would've been nice for the different meats and seafood to have some difference in flavor, but the same seasoning is used on everything so everything taste exactly the same, overly salty.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Feb 14, 2024
We were in Chicago visiting our family. My husband grew up in Chicago and we, the family, had a taste for Chinese food this evening. I have to say, being a CA girl and coming from the San Francisco Bay Area, I was a bit leery looking at a menu that had Chinese food, Japanese food and Thai food all available as options. I typically prefer a "focus on one thing and do it right" in most of what I do. I don't do smorgasbord's in life.
It was a bit of a drive from our location on the South Side, but based on the reviews and word of mouth recommendations, we placed the order ahead of time for pick up. This evening, we decided to order Chinese food.
We were surprised how busy the restaurant was when we arrived. We lucked out and found parking and went in. Convenience - they have a pick up counter set up and our food was ready. Hooray!! The staff was nice and we were greated with a smile and polite service. We paid, grabbed our large bag of food and headed back home. Oh, the branded sturdy reusable bag was not only a smart marketing idea, but a great way to exit the restaurant with our order.
Upon getting "home" at my in-laws, we sat down to eat. As far as the food itself........ not as impressed, unfortunately. The food was bland. The dish I enjoyed the most that evening was the one I ordered, Shrimp SHRIMP PAD SEE EIW; Stir-fried large noodles with meat, chinese broccoli, fresh mushrooms and eggs in our special sweet soy sauce. It had a nice flavor, a variety of vegetables and a fair amount of protein.
The question is, would I be back next time I am in Chicago and craving Asian food? No. Now to be fair, this restaurant does receive a decent amount of high star reviews, my in-laws enjoy it and it was crowded. I guess I was just looking for something different. Something more. I have eaten in China town while in Chicago and my preference is to go to restaurants that focus on a specific cuisine and more authentic.
Enjoy~Helpful 9Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0
