I'd never been here to this King Buffet in Reno before, but was invited down here from Tahoe where I'm enjoying some down time. It was a Sunday, so they are supposed to have the best spread of food. The price was $22 per person plus tax and some tip. The reviews I saw was not so encouraging, but I've learned to not really trust Yelp reviews when it comes to buffets. Only the people that wanna complain post and the people that liked it, don't bother to post. We arrived right at 11:00 opening, as one should to have the best buffet experience. All the food is new and hot and unmolested by inconsiderate diners, putting food tongs back in the wrong tray or picking out all the beef from the beef and broccoli. Get there first!
I thought the food was very good and had a good variety. The snow crab legs were placed deep into the steam tray so you really have to reach and have long arms ... I guess that's so it's harder to get and you don't take as much ... didn't stop us! There was lots of seafood, maybe not top end like a $100 buffet in Vegas, but OK for the price. They even had whole steamed ginger garlic fish, you never see that at most Chinese buffets. Sushi was typical buffet sushi, mostly CA Rolls with some fish on top. All the usual Chinese dishes were there.
The chicken wings were super good, I really liked those. The service on the other had was terrible, I'd say even worse than most Chinese buffets where all they do is clear the plates. Here they didn't even do that! We had a pile of at least SIX plates stacked to be cleared at the edge of the table and it was a long time before it was cleared. Servers even walked by and I saw them notice, but did nothing! Water's were never filled either.
Well, I'm here for the food, so that's what matters most and it was pretty decent for the price. Just get here here early and not 30 min before closing expecting hot fresh food ... there won't be.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - May 25, 2024
Although most of the reviews on this buffet was pretty negative, surprisingly I had a positive experience after dining at this restaurant.
I recently had lunch at the Asian food buffet and overall it was fantastic. Not only were the prices pretty cheap ($18 for lunch on weekends), but the staff was attentive and consistently asked if my table needed refills on our drinks and took dirty plates off. The buffet was clean, the food had a wide variety of choices, ranging from sushi and dim sum to stir-fries and bbq meat with dessert as well. Everything tasted fresh and had a lot of flavor. It was not too busy inside and there were many seatings in the dining area.
My final take on this restaurant is that this place surprised me and will become a new go-to spot for a delicious and authentic chinese buffet for lunch or dinner.
I highly recommend giving this establishment a try!Helpful 3Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 1 - Smeth C.Reno, NV162Dec 18, 2024
Honestly who knows how this place is still open. Bad food with worse ambiance and terrible service. It couldn't get any worse unless at 2pm everyday every toilet in the building exploded like a water show. Overall just a straight waste of time.

Where do I even start? The food was "basic", everything looked like it had been out for a couple of hours, and the staff was less than pleasant. Everything screamed "cheap American food". The only good thing was the price. If you're really on a budget and looking for a "place" to eat, then this might be where you want to go. All I can say is I'm never going back.

Never had been here. Since moving to Reno 10 years ago, people say they love it or hate it. So I went first time 6 months ago. Large variety of offerings for a Chinese buffet. Even had Mongolian bbq grill if you so desired.
Place was clean, nice atmosphere for a buffet and food was good. Do keep in mind if you order a soft drink it's $3 more but unlimited refills. But all you can eat for $15.99 reasonable.
Returned just a few weeks ago on same day of the week, and some food items (chicken) were barely room temperature. But I'll still go back again.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Alberto V.Reno, NV010Dec 15, 2024

This place has declined over the years. We were in the area and decided to have dinner here. Service started off great, but abruptly came to a halt. There was a banquet dinner in their private room. I believe that the food offered on the line was fresher due to this party. The hot grill wasn't too bad. We got our seafood fix and we were on our way.

For the value, food quality is wanting. Sushi is just fake crap served in different rolls. No salmon or tuna.
Red meat is minimal and tough. Salmon overcooked and tough. Fried food that wasn't dry inside was the exception. Tasty and Moist coconut shrimp.
Bussers were cleaning tables but that appears to be the only thing that is cleaned in this restaurant. The walls, booths, carpet and floors are disgustingly dirty. As you walk up to the front doors, let the filthy front of the business be your warning. we won't be returning.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Dec 5, 2023
The sushi did in fact have pickles in it LOL, but it was actually the best thing the Buffet had to offer. Bland chow mein and rice, felt like eating white rice with soy sauce. French fries were cold and freezer burnt. Egg roll was dripping in old grease. The low quality food didn't shock me, but how filthy the restaurant was did. Sticky tables, spilt sauces on the walls, and the floor hasn't been vacuumed. It feels unfortunate to leave such a negative review, but after spending nearly $30 I feel scammed. Take your money and spend a bit more to go to one of the casino buffets.
If the restaurant did a deep clean and kept food fresher it would be worth a visit.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 4 - Sammy R.Reno, NV219168Oct 30, 2024
I usually do not like to leave bad reviews especially being a local but my roommate encouraged me to leave one. I went to eat with my family and we had horrible customer experience and service. We had to ask for utensils after we had grabbed our food, when I asked for a drink the waiter questioned how many people were sitting with us, and at the end was asking for tip as we were leaving. Saying "tip isn't included". My brother told him that he left a tip on the card since we didn't have any cash. He continued to ask for tip, followed us out the door, and began to talk to his coworker in his language about us. Then he came outside and stared at us as we were in the parking lot. I did call the restaurant afterwards and was told the manager was not available. I did speak with someone else and was told they would deliver the message. It's a shame because I grew up going to King Buffet and it was a staple in my household.
