Such a cute little place for an afternoon ice cream pick-me-up! My co-workers and I came here after finding this place on yelp and wow, the pictures looked so good! We all got 3 churro cones for 4 people and we only ate half of each cone.
The cones are huge (shareable) but they were pretty pricey. The ice cream itself was really creamy and they have so many different options for toppings. However, when we were there, they ran out most of the toppings we were interested in! They have spoons which changes colors when it touches the cold, which we were so amused by haha. The ice cream starts to get really sweet as you keep eating. Once we got to the churro cone, it was soooo hard. Too hard to even eat. It definitely looks better than it tastes.
La Bodega is cute for the pictures but I probably won't be back.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - May 18, 2019
Tiny hole in the wall to the right of Barrio. Stepping in and ordering, the cashier seemed to be annoyed at our presence. She was very short with us and had some sass in her tone when talking with us. Maybe she was having a bad day...but the day had barely began. I ordered the Pork Al Pastor bowl. While I didn't think it was going to be the size of a chipotle bowl, but I definitely expected it to be bigger than it actually was. It was about the size of the cheesy fiesta potatoes from Taco Bell. The Pork Al Pastor was delicious and I loved that there was pineapple in it.
My friend ordered the Skinny Avocado burrito and she said similarly to me that the burrito itself was delicious, but it wasn't worth the money that she paid. The food is great but not great enough to want us to pay that much.
We wanted to order churro cones and she said they weren't ready..this was two hours after opening. She didn't tell us when they would be ready. She didn't say sorry, I was pretty much over it. We ended up still getting a nutella churro and it was meh. It was a mediocrely fried churro with no sugar or cinnamon on the outside, then they just spread some nutella and nuts on the top.
My brother stopped by here super recently with friends and he said the service they got was a lot better and then man that helped them was very patient. With that being said, I'd love to return to still try a churro cone but I'm not in a hurry.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Mar 2, 2019
This place is muy pequena! But its super cute and trendy. Customers can enjoy upbeat Latin music, friendly staff, colorful piñatas hanging from the ceiling, and a wide assortment of churros-I tried the "red velvet."
I was ant in love with the churro, not sweet enough for me, but it was presented well.
The coffee was okay. I had the Americano. I really want to rate this place higher because it's so enchanting, but the churro and the coffee were not as tasty as I'd hoped.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - Jan 12, 2019
While people rave about their churros and coffees, I enjoy this place for their small menu of tacos and bowls. They're in a convenient location from my office, and I can order lunch and pick it up in mere minutes. (I use the Ritual app). They don't accept cash, so it's even more convenient to get lunch this way. (It's a tiny store front and just a few seats in the window if you choose to dine in.)
As mentioned the menu is limited, yet the food is good and ready fast! See the menu that I posted. They offer drinks, alcohol and a few other items in the store as well.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Apr 1, 2019Updated review
More of a 2.5.
Tried it again with a message from the manager and got 2 fruity pebbles churros, a nutella churro, and a pistachio one (seasonal). They weren't that warm (once again) and they didn't have any sugar, just the drizzles and toppings.
There was a decent amount of people in the space, but it still took a long time. Customer service was great, but sadly the quality of the food hasn't changed for the better.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Mar 24, 2019Previous reviewA really hard place to find: it's so small and there is not even a sign. I walked past it before realizing my mistake. When I got in the place, the first thing that hit me was the quaint size and the Mexican vibes that came through music. I really liked it! It added a lot to the whole name of La Bodega.
They have tacos, but the desserts and drinks are the stars of the show here. The summer specials at the time I went were Charcoal Lemonade and Alien Limade with blue ice cubes and glitter. The lemonade was better in my opinion in terms of flavor; the limeade was okay but it seemed like a drink made purely for the Instagram. The churros were good, but they did not taste fresh and they were kind of cold in the center. The fruity pebbles one tasted really good though.
I say this place is good for a one-time thing, but after that, there are better places to get more authentic churros and drinks. - Nov 4, 2018
If you're looking for something insta-worthy, come here! This small shop has a little bit of everything from desserts, drinks, and even tacos! Since we just had brunch, we came here for the desserts and drinks. This place puts that extra-ness in their treats that makes it impossible to not take a picture.
They offer flavored churros for $3.50 each. The churros are about 6inches long and are fun, creative, and tasty! I tried the Fruity Pebbles Churro and I loved the sweetness from the icing topped on the crunchy churro. In addition, I ordered a Matcha Iced Tea ($5) to pair. Although the matcha was not as strong and a bit plain, I did appreciate their latte art on my drink. Since it was Halloween weekend, they made a skull with a reflection in my foam. The detail was amazing and very intricate and delicate.
My friends ordered the Mexican Hot Chocolate ($8), which was topped with a churro, marshmallow, cookie crisp, and even glitter all over the whipped cream. Seriously, the drink was so extra! If you want a fun treat that's worth showing off to your friends, come take your pick here.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Feb 19, 2019
Easy to miss, super small shop, but was able to snag a spot on a Sunday afternoon! It's really cute and definitely insta-worthy! There was a bit of a wait (15 minutes or so), but it looked like there was only 1 girl working!
I just got the Mexican Hot Chocolate ($8....yes I paid $8 for a hot chocolate and I do not regret it!) It came with a churro with chocolate syrup, a chocolate marshmallow, and whipped cream! It was VERY decadent and sweet, but the perfect treat to warm up with. The spices in the hot chocolate were quite good. I'd love to try their churro ice cream on a warmer day!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Oct 29, 2018
How freaking cute is this place. It's like an upscale bodega that sells tacos, churros, and related company like a churro SUNDAE. I didn't get the sundae, or the Chocolate Abuelita, but I thought about it.
Instead, I went beyond basic and bought a plain churro. Well, my mom and I actually bought half a dozen for way too much money. But I can't give them 3 stars for that because the churros were actually good! Fresh from the fryer they tasted like crunchy soft pillows coated in cinnamon sugar, which is exactly what a churro should taste like and not like a rock stick with some last minute toppings that you may see at a county fair.
It's not anything to get too crazy over, but the spot itself is cute and as the website claims "super Insta-worthy!"Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jun 17, 2018
I spotted this place on Instagram and saw all of the great photos of churros so I bookmarked it right away for our Chicago trip. I was so surprised to walk up and see it was just this tiny little shop (an elevated convenience store feel) where you could get your coffee, snacks, condiments, dessert, and even tacos, all in one place! The girl working at the counter was really friendly and helpful too...I wish all customer service was that good.
For our drinks we tried the Cochata (almond milk cold brew with horchata whip) and an iced matcha latte. The matcha latte was a bit watery but the Cochata was one of the prettiest coffees I've ever seen! Not only was the flavor unique, but it had such a pretty presentation, with shiny gold sparkles sprinkled on top! We also ordered churros, and yes this was technically our breakfast, but every bite was worth it. We definitely liked the strawberry shortcake churro more than the Nutella one since it was more unique, and luckily we got to try that since it was only a seasonal flavor. The churro itself had a subtle strawberry flavor and the dried strawberries and crumbles on top made it reminiscent of a strawberry shortcake ice cream bar. Everything was so good here that I almost wish we had tried their tacos too!Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - May 26, 2018
This is such a quaint lil shop. Its like churro heaven. Small and cozy, with only about 4 seats available inside.
The churros come in a wide variety of flavors and colors and toppings to choose from!! Dont forget to pair it with some awesome hot chocolate.
If you are craving something sweet and in a jiffy, you've come to the right spot! But dont linger too long as there is no room!Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0
