I wish I could give 0 stars. The absolute worst place to go for anything. They don't provide refunds even when they don't have the part they claimed to have!!! The most rude and obnoxious people work here who don't care what you think of them. Smh

Of the dozens of the companies I called to take away my totaled clunker, this is one of only two who showed up, and with more than I expected or was told by other companies.

Last year I junked my father's 1998 Toyota Camry and got $300 from Liberty Scrap Metal as agreed over the phone. Easy. Today I helped my In-Law junked their 2003 Kia Sedona and was looking to the easy 1-2-3 process as described on their website, but didn't go as planned. You tell them over the phone the year, make model and they pretty much know how much it weigh and know how much metal it has and how much it is worth and immediately offered me $350 which I glad accepted. The car itself has been through some rough time with busted headlights etc, but still run just couldn't pass inspections, so not worth any more investment. When the driver came, he stated the car isn't worth $350 and tell me to give him an offer instead b/c he "doesn't want to insult me by low balling me". Oh how considerate of him, but you knew that's a red flag there. He said no to $300 and again to $250 and wanted to push for $200, but at that point he knew I wasn't willing to give it away at that price, so he gave me $250. While I'm still happy with $250, I can't help but felt I was ripped off by this driver. So here's my problem.
1. If this is how Liberty Scrap Metal operate, renage and back out of the agreed price over the phone then hands down that's a shady practice. I urge others to take their business elsewhere where you can more more money for your car. Condition on the car doesn't matter since its' gonna be crushed and scrapped anyway. He said it himself that it adds no value rather it can run or not. I knew this is true b/c I still have the key from my 1998 Toyota Camry, they didn't care for it.
2. If this is the work of one greedy/shady driver(s) to line his own pocket, then shame on him for tarnishing Libery Scrap Metal's integrity and reputation as a business for giving top dollar for your car. If so, Liberty Scrap Metal should thank me for exposing scams amongst their drivers. It was today at 10:45am on Monday June 8th 2015, that your driver, you know who he is, came and rip me off my $100. I honestly don't expect a reimbursement, just want to expose what you may or may not already know. Your driver are ripping your customers off.
I actually called up dispatch to asked if it was common for them to renegotiate after arriving, but the dispatch sounded busy and said "I don't know what you're asking, I'll have my driver call you back." I also gave feedback on their own website to express what had happened, but I'll doubt it'll be posted.
I hope Liberty Scrap Metal take action to fix this corruption. I don't believe the driver (or owner) knew the power of the internet and/or that i was gonna post this online for everyone to read. I will update when the owner reach back to me. If not, please don't be scammed like me and take your business elsewhere. Just search "junk your car nyc" and you'll find plenty of option. They will give you a price slightly better than others scrap metal companies over the phone and once you commit to them, wasted your day waiting for them, knowing you're unlikely to take another day off to call another scrap metal company, their drivers/owners can squeeze out the $ your car deserved. Shame on them!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Frank F.Bay Shore, NY350Feb 4, 2015First to Review
I had these people come to my house to pick up a car and they damaged my property. Tried to confront them and kept blowing me off. The tow truck driver came to my house without me being home and sent the car through my garage door and damages my fence when backing into my driveway. I have the accident on my video cameras and still won't pay for my damaged property.
