Hey Hey, Thomas (Hatikwa) here.
Time really does fly! Eight years have passed since I released a full-length album. A lot has happened in my life since 2017. The pandemic, for example, affected everyone in the music industry and disrupted all future plans. After this unfamiliar period, a new & hungry, but diverse psy-trance scene emerged. Not every promoter and artist was able to handle this change. I had great concerns, too. And at times, even fear. I even got to the point where I had to learn new production techniques to remain competitive. This caused my stress level to rise, and the time during and after the pandemic was not a good one for me musically. Nevertheless, some tracks were created during this time that were somewhat outside my comfort zone.
Beyond that, I fortunately decided to open my own label, Xonica Records, to new and unknown but creative artists who needed a foundation for their art. Many of these artists are also featured on the new album. At times, the input from the young artists was so significant for me that it impacted my own production.
Furthermore, I was massively influenced by the birth of my child at the beginning of 2021 and the associated obligation to be a good father. I honestly didn't produce a single note of music the entire year of 2021. Because being a father was simply more important at that moment. An incredibly emotional time, and one that's still ongoing, I can tell you that! We, as a small family, are now following the same path. Where this will lead in the future, we don't know. We only know that we want to overcome it together. I tried (...no, we did!) to generate these very emotional thoughts in the cover of "Path of Life".
Time passes inexorably! What hasn't changed since 2017, however, is that I've constantly evolved my music. "Path of Life" is technically an album, yes. But I see "Path of Life" more as a compilation of my various creative phases. Not a single track on "Path of Life" was produced to be included on an album. No, "Path of Life" wasn't even planned by me. At the beginning of this year, while cleaning up my hard drive, I realized that the past eight years have had both positive and negative effects on my own music. In short: "Path of Life" reveals the musical process of this time, characterized by the constant change of my own demands and external influences.
After much deliberation, I also decided not to change the respective tracks in order to make them appear better or more balanced on the album. Each track on "Path of Life" depicts a phase in my life over the past eight years. Sometimes it was beautiful and balanced, sometimes it was stressful and loud, and sometimes it was melancholic and quiet. You will also perceive all of these adjectives on "Path of Life".
Many thanks to everyone who has accompanied me in various ways up to this point.
