If The Arcane & Paranormal Earth was the grounded album, Black Moon is its untethered, dreamlike counterpart. Drawing its name — and partial lyrical inspiration — from Louis Malle’s surreal, acid-fried film of the same title, Black Moon takes listeners on a journey through the depths of the mind. It’s a poetic exploration, like a mushroom trip through the wormhole of both inner and outer space. The album contemplates themes of divinity in dirt, the beauty of birdsong, and the delicate balance between knowledge and emotion. Black Moon continues Ye Gods’ odyssey towards the centre, navigating through dreams, imagination, and psychedelic joy.

Personal Note:

It was important to me for this second collection to be the strangest. I have really tried my best to capture what I hope is the essence of my imagination, and what I find personally interesting about this work. As a result, this was the hardest one to finish because I felt a consistent need to push myself out of my comfort zone, and really try to explore the limits of both my technical abilities and what I can dig from my subconscious. I’ve never been a great meditator but I’ve found making these records quite a meditative experience. The title was uncovered towards the end of mixing, when I was looking around for any existing media that seemed to be exploring the same themes. My intention of result is hopefully more in that Lynchian sense of being able to innately understand the material, whilst at the same time perhaps having a hard time being able to articulate it to another person. Though more than Lynch I am aiming for the feeling of something like Robert Altman’s Images or Francesco Barilli’s The Perfume Of The Lady In Black. Special thanks goes to Rachel / Ambient Babestation Meltdown for their assistance on Complete Despair & Disrepair. Thanks for listening.
