1965 IKF Regional (Corrected from District, 9-30-2013) Kart Race at Dart Kart Speedway. Mansfield, Ohio. More about the racers and the Mickey Rupp Manufacturing Plant that produced Dart Karts and later Lancer Karts. While the race captured is disappointing (always wanting to see more of the race), it gives a general layout of the track. Interest to the vintage kart racer karts: Dart Grand Prix, Fox, S.A.E., King (later Margay), Nike karts. Jim Vail, Kathey Machala, Kathey Machala-Hartman, Kathey Hartman, Rick Deye and Gordon (Dad) Deye, Bob Dempsey. Bob Dempsey and Kathey Hartman are IKF Experts and in the IKF Hall of Fame. Added 9-3-2012. Quentin H. provided the following information, with some slight edits by me. Many thanks for the education and I'm in agreement with his comments. Quentin's comment to me: "One thing I would note on the video is that the building he [Scott] guesses might be the Rupp Manufacturing plant is actually a building to the north of the Rupp plant. A couple glimpses of Mickey Rupp's factory can be seen on the left of the screen beginning at about the 3 minute mark where the flagman is trying to get the race started. Added 3-10-2014, view special video edition https://vimeo.com/50319149 ; and once there, another link to an article to learn more. If you want to see the Rupp Manufacturing building as it sits today, go to Google Maps and give it this address (use Google Maps instead of Mapquest for a much better close up): 1776 Harrington Memorial Rd. Mansfield, OH 44903 The gray-roofed, rectangular building at the southeast corner of Harrington Memorial and Rupp Rd. is the Rupp factory after the ten additions which Mickey Rupp built onto it. The last expansion (about 1970) completely covered up the pits of the kart track and it stands right up against the short straight in front of the pits. If you get a good close up, you can see the remains of the Dart Kart Speedway in the grassy field to the right (east) of the Rupp plant.....what's left of one of the world's finest karting facilities of the the first 10 years of karting--and maybe of all time. [Quentin H.]" Go Kart tracks from the 1960s. Added 28-May-2016: Since posting the movie, I've reconnected with Bob Dempsey. He believes the race captured was "A" Super Heavy and that was him leading the race. The individual not identified in the group conversation with Kathey Machala (Hartman) and Bob Jeffries, I believe may have been Ken Burden, but was unable to confirm. Scott Elkes
