How to Design a Mosaic Tile Backsplash
A LOT of thought has to go into the initial design when creating large, handmade ceramic tiles. They need to interlock together; seamlessly. Texture was added to the aspen tree and its branches, then stained with glaze to realistically resemble the tree's bark. The background filler tiles are shades of brown/green/blue to resemble the earth/sky behind the aspen tree stand. The use of a brown grout blends all of the rounds together; bringing the aspen tree / leaf design into the foreground.

Aspen Tree / Leaf Mosaic Tiles
Aspen tree leaf mosaic ceramic tiles are a warm color pallet that works well with brick and stone decor. Reds, yellows, orange, and brown tones were used to create this realistic mosaic tile kitchen backsplash. Each tile is handmade the ole' fashion way, starting with a block of clay that is hand-worked, hand-rolled, hand-cut, and eventually hand-glazed. Not being molded tiles makes each tile unique; no two are ever identical. Better yet? All of my tiles are fully vitrified and shower safe.

The Fibonacci / God / Golden Mean spiral is well known to mathematicians. It's found nearly everywhere in nature, and even on you! It makes a wonderful "down the drain" effect in your showers. It's shown here, using my maple leaf shaped mosaic handmade ceramic tiles with Dark Ocean pebble mosaic stone tiles. Small clusters of the Norwegian and Red Maple tile leaves are in the corners to balance out this shower floor design idea.
