Colchester Town Hall, Colchester, Essex, England,

Colchester Town Hall in Colchester, Essex, England, opened in 1902. It is Grade I listed. The building is of exceptionally rich design in free classical style, constructed of red brick and Portland stone. It contains 3 storeys. The lowest is stone-faced with a central entrance, carved brackets to the porch and a support balcony above. Three pairs of engaged Corinthian columns rise through first and second storeys to support two segmental and one triangular pediment.

The Balkerne Gate, Colchester, Essex, England

The Balkerne gate in Colchester is the oldest surviving intact Roman gateway in the UK. It was built in circa 68AD following the Boudiccan revolt of AD60, whereby the town was destroyed by the Iceni led by Boudicca (Bodacea). The construction of the gate is of red brick, stone and lime mortar. The bricks were produced locally and must qualify as some of the earliest produced building bricks in Britain.
