Old Beaded Heart Pin Cushion - Etsy

Antique Heart Beaded Pin Cushion This is an exceptionally lovely pin cushion from around the turn of the century (19th/20th centuries). Measuring 6 by 4 1/2 inches, it is in excellent condition - no breaks, no missing or replaced beads. The motif is strong: leaves done in clear glass beads on a red velvet background. It still retains its original beaded loop for hanging. It appears that the owner stitched a blue ribbon from which to hang it rather than stress the beaded loop. The back is done in brown velvet. There is some purplish staining, but not near as bad as in the photo. It was hard to capture it as the brown is a bit warmer in tone and the stain more subtle. It feels like it is stuffed with cotton batting. I don't think it was ever used as a pin cushion. Most of these were purchased as keepsakes or given as gifts. What I so love about this piece is that it is done in a singular type and color bead. Most often these pieces were done in multi-color and various size beading. A perfect gift for the heart or sewing collector.
