AUSET / ISIS
Isis, often portrayed as a woman with a throne-shaped headdress, was known as the goddess of motherhood, magic, and wisdom. Her role transcended the boundaries of a mere deity; she was regarded as the ultimate protector and nurturer. Isis played a pivotal role in the myth of Osiris, using her magical powers to resurrect her beloved husband and ensure the continuity of life and kingship.
The name "Isis" is a Greek name. The original people of that time referred to her as “Ausset or Asset”, in hieroglyphics is represented as a throne, a loaf of bread, and a young reed plant enclosed within a cartouche. These symbols carry profound meaning: the throne signifies her role as a divine queen and mother, the loaf of bread symbolizes sustenance and nourishment, and the reed plant represents growth and rebirth. Enclosed within a cartouche, her name signifies protection and eternal significance.
The word cartouche is French, and derives from the word “carcass”, meaning dead bodies. They usually found these amulets in the tombs of the pharaohs. That’s why they called them cartouches(carcasses).
But the correct name for these oval shaped pieces of art is “Shen”, is a prominent oval shape that enclosed hieroglyphic symbols. It was reserved for the names of Pharaohs and deities. It signified the eternal nature of the individual whose name it contained, shielding them from harm in both the mortal realm and the afterlife.
For the ordinary person, a jewel with the name of the deity or king in the cartouche(Shen) guaranteed the wearer's protection.
Wearing the Isis Cartouche Necklace is not just an act of adornment; it is a tribute to the nurturing and protective qualities of the goddess Isis. This exquisite piece of jewelry allows you to carry a symbol of her wisdom, magic, and eternal love.
