I'm going to show you what my parents and students are going to be doing for open house. They will all receive a copy of our open house scavenger hunt. They're going to find and do each thing on the list. Find your sticker name tag and put it on. Make sure we have it spelled correctly. So they're going to find our name tag which is labeled with our classroom scavenger hunt tag. They're going to put on their name tag and find the next thing. Find your teacher and get your open house packet. I stand at the back of the room so families can come right in and start looking around and playing and so I'll be standing up here. Each student gets their communication folder that will go in their backpacks filled with all of the classroom information. Then we always give our students a book to take home and keep at open house. Find the photo station and get your picture taken. My classroom aide will be over here with the camera taking each student's picture making sure they have their name tag on so that I can study the pictures and know all of my students before the first day of school. Number four, find the bathroom and practice flushing and washing your hands. We are lucky enough to have a bathroom connected to our classroom. Find the bathroom sign. Um we have automatic toilets so they're practice flushing and practice washing their hands. Number 5, find the block center and build a tower. We have some big and quick and easy building tower materials here at the block center. Number six, find the writing center and color a picture. Here's our writing center and I have very simple coloring pages out for the first week of school. Number seven, find the kitchen and make something to eat. Here's our kitchen center where they can make lots of food. Number eight, find your cubby that has your name on it. This is where you will hang your backpacks. This gives our students a chance to be familiar with where their cubby is. Number nine, find the birthday graph and check to see if your birthday is right. Our birthday graph is over here by the calendar and we have all students' names. You can see that most of our birthdays are in August. And number ten, find the library center and read a book. We like to let our preschoolers know that they don't have to read words to be able to read the book. They can look at the pictures or retail a familiar story. Now of course they can check out the rest of the room but we do have some centers that are just closed for open house. We don't have our synergize center open or our painting easel or our messy table. We found in the that if you have everything open with all of the parents and students here at the same time the room pretty much gets destroyed. So we like to keep it simple and give them tasks to do throughout the room.
