Hi, I'm Aaron. Full Stack Developer :)
About Me
TDLR (Short Version)
I'm a Full Stack developer based in Ottawa with over five years of programming experience, including two years in a professional setting. I bring peoples visions to life while following SOLID engineering and design principles, ensuring that the code I write is maintainable for future developers. In my free time, I'm exploring embedded systems and advancing my learning in DBMS.
My Journey So Far (Long Version)
I was first introduced to programming as a junior in high school after being recommend it by my physics teacher after doing well in Intro To Computers which focused more on the hardware aspect of electronics. We started with the fundamental concepts of programming in BASIC using a web based enviroment called Quite Basic. Where I wrote my first code and created my first simple game. It was a 2d pixel game much like the space invaiders. I enjoyed the process of figuring out why something didn't work and how to make it work. Half way through the semester I had a working and refactored copy completing the material for that course. Since I finished way earlier than what was anticipated. I ended up becoming a second resource for other students who needed help walking them through their logic. At the end of the year I won the Computer Science Award.
The next year I took Advanced Computer Science as a senior. This was much more heavily focused on data structures and algorithms than the first year of understanding the fundamentals. About 40% of the class dropped out. We started with stacks, queues and arrays. Then simple sorting algorithms like bubble and insertion sort. Moving on to binary search and ending with more advanced array techniques 2 pointer and like sliding window. I ended up winning the Computer Science Award a second time before graduating that year.
I took a year off from school, learning web development on the side when the covid-19 pandemic hit. At that time I was fortunate enough to have work being a construction labour moving concrete blocks and stone. After a couple summers I became tired of working in the cold and applied for a factory position. I was hired during this time, I became frustrated with inefficient internal processes and thought I could build a better system. So, after work I go home straight to the computer. The project is SMT CALC if your intrested and can get it running. (The code is garbage) I've come a long way since then. Fortunately, it did solve a business case and the director of manufacturing eng. and operational technology manager were willing to invest in me.
At that role and I maintained and developed internal software within manufacturing plant. For fun, I am exploring embedded systems building a 8 bit bread board computer. Going as low level as possible including bit manipulation, assembly and hopefully be able to install a program like basic on it. Other than that in my free time, I'm advancing my learning in DBMS specially B-trees, SSTables, LSM trees, replication and query optimization engines.
