Timeline of Google in the Philippines

For almost a decade, Google has been supporting the Philippines' journey towards a thriving digital economy. The company is committed to empowering Filipinos by providing them the technology and skills they need to succeed in the digital age.

More than just an office.

In 2017, Google found its home in the Philippines, ready to embrace the vibrant culture and empower Filipinos with technology. The company formally opened its first office at the heart of Manila in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.

Google's journey in the Philippines accelerated with a bold declaration at the first "Google for Philippines" event in Manila in 2019: to bring the power of the internet to Filipinos. Since then, the company has been hard at work to achieve this goal, upskilling thousands through Google Career Certificates and AI Essentials programs. Google also teamed up with government agencies and non-profit organizations to help netizens be safer online. Our commitment to the Philippines' digital transformation continues to grow.

Connecting the Philippines, and the world.

At the first-ever U.S. Trade and Investment Mission to the Philippines in March 2024, Google reaffirmed its support for the country's digital growth. The company highlighted its investments in digital skilling and infrastructure, including the TPU (Taiwan-Philippines-United States) subsea cable system, which is on track for completion by the end of 2025. This vital infrastructure will help meet the growing demand for digital and cloud-based services in the Philippines. Google’s network investments boosted the GDP by USD 14 billion and created 93,000 jobs in the country.

Philippines: The fastest-growing digital economy in Southeast Asia

The Philippine digital economy is the fastest-growing in Southeast Asia, jumping from $26 billion in 2023 to a projected $31 billion in gross merchandise value (GMV) this year, according to the latest e-Conomy SEA report titled Profits on the rise, harnessing SEA’s advantage by Google, Temasek, and Bain and Company.
