Christiane Tchotcho Akoua Ekué was born in Lomé in 1954 and hails from Togo. Her father was an accountant and her mother a schoolteacher. The family spoke Mina at home. When she was six she went to the Kodjoviakopé school in Lomé where her mother was headmistress. She then spent part of her childhood in Bobo Dioulasso in Burkina Faso. From 1968 to 1974 she went to school in Beaune. From 1974 to 1984 she studied at tertiary level in Togo and Saarbrücken, in Germany. On completion of her studies, she found work as a proof reader for the Nouvelles Editions Africaines in Togo. In 1992, she was an Assistant Publisher at the same organisation. She was in charge of the reading committee, keept an eye on the printing works, corrected the proofs and acted as press attaché. It is in this latter capacity that she discussed any new publications on television. She later became the Director of the Nouvelles Editions Africaines du Togo. In 2005, she created the publishing house "Graines de Pensées" in Lome.
