Routing, Operations, and Sizing for Aircraft (ROSA)

Writing a sizing framework that integrates aircraft operations and route optimization directly into the conceptual design process. Designed for MantaRay.Implements a feed-forward, margin based approach to accelerate the sizing loop. (Great Idea Ben Brelje / OpenConcept!)Status:
- Sizes turbo-electric (is there any other way?!) E-VTOLs. Turbo-electric CTOLS are next
- First "allocation problem" ,ie. routing optimization, modules running. Following work by Dr Hwang


Teensy Drone

Following this tutorial to learn how to program a Teensy (micro) flight controller. Flight test videos to come soon! Thanks Carbon Aeronautics!


Manta Ray

Two stage vehicle that ditches the battery used for takeoff and climb in the form of a smaller, autonomous aircraft. Results in a range gain of 80% and energy cost reduction by 40% compared to a standard passenger hybrid-electric aircraft. Deck.Technically feasible but operationally complex. Not worth it if the industry is able to scale affordable E-SAF. To be determined!!


Swift

High speed medical logistics drone for Canada's North. Deck.Evident need but small market. Not scalable until BVLOS regulations are clear.


Robin

A hybrid electric autonomous towplane for gliders. Deck.


Blackbird 6DoF Simulation

Building out a six-degree of freedom model of the blackbird in Simulink from scratch (not using the built-in 6DoF blocks!). Aerodynamic inputs taken from the LASRE Test Campaign. Repo here


VTOL Flight Simulator Mod

Modified an open source flight simulator built with OpenGL in C++ to support VTOL dynamics. Controllers need some work thogh!FlightSim originally designed by Jakob Maier. His source. My fork
