Hi, I'm Alex, I'm a nerd and a tinkerer.
I'm a generalist technologist. I've worked across startups, agencies, and enterprise orgs, which has left me comfortable with a wide range of concepts, philosophies, and technical patterns. I am most experienced with user-centric code, such as browser-facing applications, marketing sites, and mobile apps. "Full-stack" for me extends through design and go-to-market, and I've shipped viable products end to end on my own.
Outside of paid work, I enjoy taking advantage of the extended travel remote work affords, drive my racecar, mod video games, and experiment with emerging tech, leveraging self-hosted AI agents and foundation models, exploring LoRA-based mesh networking, and prototyping my own hardware with additive manufacturing and DIY electronics.
If you find anything on this page interesting please drop me a line, I'm always down to talk shop. hi@alex.mw
I build full stack applications for Fidelity Charitable and the Giving Marketplace, delivering customer-facing and business-facing experiences alongside internal tools our representatives rely on to service donors. These include a suite of Angular web and mobile clients backed by NestJS and Spring Boot services.
I contribute end-to-end solutions across a cloud-first footprint on AWS, EKS, and Docker, work in monorepos within an agile environment, and lean on AI-assisted coding workflows such as Claude Code and GitHub Copilot to accelerate delivery.
I led architecture and principal engineering for a SaaS, a lightweight CRM with a superset of niche-specific features. It was built with a Next.js / React frontend, a NestJS / GraphQL backend, and Strapi for headless content management. I also delivered internal tools, marketing automation systems, and startup prototypes for lead generation and conversion attribution.
I hired a multidisciplinary team of developers and designers and coordinated agile delivery of the project. I set technical standards, conducted code reviews, and guided the team on software architecture and implementation.
I built user-facing experiences across Southwest's digital portfolio, including the southwest.com and swabiz.com single-page applications, the Southwest mobile app, and the internal system that allows employees to book flights for themselves, friends, and family.
I shipped code using JavaScript, React, and Redux on the frontend, RESTful Java services on the backend, and partnered with designers, product managers, and platform teams to ship booking, check-in, and account management features for one of the largest airlines in the U.S.
As the senior-most engineer at a digital product agency, I owned technical direction, architecture, and engineering standards across the agency's portfolio. In addition to my code contributions I led code review, drove incident response and disaster recovery, managed infrastructure and deployments, and served as the organization's go-to technical authority across dozens of concurrent client projects.
I shipped single-page applications in React, mobile applications in React Native and Angular, backends in Laravel and Ruby on Rails, and responsive marketing sites with WordPress / Drupal / static site generators for clients ranging from a U.S. state government to an enterprise networking vendor, a same-day home services booking platform, a women's health subscription product, a consumer fitness application, a nature and science museum, a bicycle manufacturer, a community bank, and a regional tourism organization among others.
I was one of three technical leads reporting to the CTO of a holding company with acquisitions across the direct selling space, including Longaberger. I helped manage the technical operations of each acquisition, keeping their existing web properties online and supporting the highly specialized, often dated industry software each acquisition brought with it, while also driving the longer-term effort to consolidate all holdings onto a modern, standardized business technology platform.
I contributed to the design, development, and rollout of this unified platform which was built on .NET, nopCommerce, and Angular. It was built to handle direct-selling attribution and core business operations across the portfolio. I also worked on migrating all user-facing web properties onto a fleet-managed, WordPress-based marketing site solution, replacing a patchwork of legacy systems with a consistent and maintainable footprint.
LTK, formerly rewardStyle, is a Dallas-based creator commerce platform that drives $5B+ in annual retail sales across 44M+ monthly shoppers. They brought me on during a period of significant platform modernization. I built an Angular-based application framework and modular toolchain to allow engineers to rapidly author and deploy reusable components and micro frontends across the platform, and led a progressive migration from the legacy Ember.js frontend and PHP APIs to a modernized stack.
I designed opinionated, standards-compliant RESTful APIs to connect these new clients to the modernized backend services I contributed to and integrated across the stack, built atop technologies such as Python, Go, Node.js, Apache Thrift, MySQL, MongoDB, Cassandra, and AWS.
Armor is a managed secure cloud provider built for compliance-ready infrastructure spanning HIPAA, PCI DSS, HITRUST, and GDPR. I built the single-page applications our customers and internal teams relied on: a customer portal, interfaces for managing firewall rules and VPNs, an internal dashboard, and other management tooling, using AngularJS and BackboneJS against RESTful APIs.
I developed an internal Angular framework backed by Gulp, Yeoman, and a self-hosted Bower repository to let developers scaffold and share reusable modules quickly, and I served as the team's subject matter expert on AngularJS and RESTful API design. I contributed to Python microservices built on Flask, RabbitMQ, and AMQP, which were responsible for handling automated provisioning and orchestration of VMware virtual machines inside a service-oriented architecture. I participated in SAFe agile training alongside the team's dedicated scrum masters and business analysts.
I built web properties for a Dallas digital media agency serving national consumer brands, delivering solutions across a range of CMS and ecommerce platforms (WordPress, Drupal, Django, Shopify, Magento, SilverStripe) for clients including TIGI, A/C Pro, the world's highest volume motorhome dealer, and the agency's parent company, Southwest Media Group.
I overhauled internal infrastructure, configuring redundant Linux file servers (Ubuntu, RAID, Netatalk, Samba) and high-performance web servers (Nginx, Rackspace Cloud, CentOS), and designed and fabricated a distributed GPU computing cluster for an internal project (Arch Linux, OpenCL, Nvidia CUDA). I performed security audits, identified and patched vulnerabilities, and led disaster recovery when needed. Beyond engineering, I introduced agile workflows and modern tooling (JIRA, GitLab), and served as technical lead, producing scopes of work, requirements reports, and end-user documentation.
I built pixel-perfect, W3C-valid, responsive websites and web applications from designer PSDs, extending CMS frameworks to meet client specifications and leveraged technologies such as WordPress, Drupal, Joomla, and Magento.
Clients included Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, a SoCal local business directory, an investor portfolio management SaaS, and a school district amongst others.
I designed and built the company's web presence for Armored Cars and Trucks (ACT), a manufacturer and seller of armored vehicles serving private military companies, government clients, and security contractors operating across the United States, Europe, Iraq, Afghanistan, and North Africa.
I produced designs in Photoshop and Illustrator, then developed and implemented these designs in a fully customized, tailored WordPress installation. I built PHP and JavaScript integrations to power marketing conversion flows, track vehicle inventory, surface sales analytics, and manage inbound leads. I coordinated the geographically distributed sales team through SugarCRM and Microsoft Exchange, and provided hands-on IT support, configuring employee workstations, troubleshooting issues, and maintaining the company's business servers.
I handled community and product work for FragArcade, a competitive gaming platform offering on-demand, match-specific game servers tied to the tournaments and leagues FragArcade hosted. This service was built and shipped years before ephemeral game server instances became the industry standard. I ran private beta tests and focus groups, performed QA, and provided ongoing product feedback for a Netherlands Antilles–based company that was quietly building esports infrastructure before the term was widely used.
I contributed articles to GamingJunky, an esports-focused gaming blog under the same umbrella, and worked as a journalist for Pro Gam3r Magazine, one of the first print publications dedicated to competitive gaming. I assisted at trade shows and worked to get the magazine into the hands of readers at LAN parties across the country.
