Wordless Wednesday, Oslo.

 Oslo, Norway.

The old and the new. This schooner was moored next to us with a modern yacht behind her.

A modern sculpture of a yacht in the harbour.

We passed here on the ship's shuttle service and thought it was a ski slope. It is Oslo's Opera House!

The Lion statue by the Parliament buildings.

Wordless Wednesday

I found this one when looking through my photos. It is in Norway, I think Tromso but can't be sure. I usually make a note of where photos are taken, but not this time.

I thought it was ideal as it is close to Valentine's Day.

Wordless Wednesday - Northern Lights

As you can see, these are not photos taken by me but taken by the ship photographer. We were there though to see them. The last photo is one that I took.

This last photo was taken by me from our cabin balcony. Although I was using my better camera it didn't pick up the colours as well and I needed a tripod to keep the camera still.

Wordless Wednesday.

Alta Norway September 2019. Last cruise before Covid lockdown. We took a private tour from here and there was about 2 inches of snow. When we got back a few hours later it was nearer 18 inches!

Wordless Wednesday - Bergen,

Rosenkrantz Tower, Bergenhus Fortress, Bergen, Norway.

"The tower was built in the 1560s by the governor of Bergen Castle (Bergenhus), Erik Rosenkrantz, and served as a combined residence and fortified tower.

The Rosenkrantz Tower is considered one of the most important renaissance monuments in Norway. Parts of the tower are from the 1270s, but it has been extended on several occasions for the purpose of fortification and as a demonstration of power.

If you climb up the narrow and dark flights of stairs you can climb right up onto the roof, which provides impressive views. The tower was the residence of King Eirik Magnusson, who was the last king to hold court in Bergen, until he died in 1299. Later the tower housed less fortunate residents – the cellar contains the notorious dungeon, which was probably in use well into the 19th century."

Wordless Wednesday

"Oslo was renamed Christiania in 1624 after Christian IV of Denmark and Norway ordered its rebuilding after a fire destroyed the city for the 14th time. It was rebuilt near Akershus Festning (Castle). The original name of Oslo was restored in 1925. The statue is of Christian IV’s glove pointing to where Oslo was rebuilt."

Wordless Wednesday - North Cape.

If you zoom in the details of these monuments is in English on the right hand side in the above photo.
UPDATE.
I was asked if I had more details for the sculptures and found this on the Children of the World website,

Children of the World

The “Children of the World” sculpture was started in 1988 when author Simon Flem Devold randomly selected seven children from seven countries – Tanzania, Brazil, USA, Japan, Thailand, Italy and Russia — to visit the North Cape to dream of “Peace on Earth“.

During their seven day visit, each of the 8-to12-year-old children made a clay relief symbolizing friendship, hope, joy and working together. In 1989 the reliefs were enlarged, case in bronze and erected in a semi-circle outside the North Cape Hall.  A “Mother and Child “monument by sculptor Eva Rybakken points toward the seven disks.

Arctic Circle Cruise October 2019 - Stavanger Part 2

This is the final part of our Arctic Circle cruise and is views around the Stavanger area.
Once again, the photos will look better if clicked on. I don't know why they load blurry on this blog as it doesn't happen on my other one.

Going back down the fjord heading for the open sea and home.
