Organization

The governance of the Pennsylvania Society of Sons of the Revolution is grounded in its corporate Charter, which was granted in 1890 and last amended in 1977, and in its Bylaws, which were last amended in 1995. The Pennsylvania Society is one of twenty-eight similar state organizations which together form the General Society of Sons of the Revolution, a national organization headquartered in the Revolutionary-era Fraunces Tavern, in New York City. The Pennsylvania Society, like other state societies, has the power to grant charters to in-state chapter organizations. Since 1925 the Pennsylvania Society has included a Lancaster County Chapter, which elects its own officers and executive committee. In September 1998 the Lancaster County Chapter, with the support and guidance of the Pennsylvania Society, hosted the General Society’s Board of Managers meeting in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
